We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeping Specialist to join our growing team. Someone who is detail-driven, comfortable working remotely, and confident managing day-to-day bookkeeping while communicating directly with clients in a tech-forward environment.
The Role
We are looking to expand our team with a highly organized, self-motivated
Bookkeeping Specialist
who thrives in a fast-paced, client-focused environment and takes pride in delivering accurate, reliable bookkeeping.
This role reports directly to management to support day-to-day bookkeeping operations across multiple client engagements. You will be responsible for maintaining clean, accurate books and ensuring strong financial foundations that support higher-level accounting and advisory work.
Tidal CFO operates as a remote first firm, this role requires candidates to be confident working independently, communicating proactively, and engaging directly with clients, including picking up the phone when needed to get the job done.
Key Responsibilities
1. Own Day-to-Day Bookkeeping with Accuracy & Judgment
Take full ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping for assigned clients using cloud-based tools
Process transactions promptly and keep bookkeeping workflows current, ensuring nothing sits idle without explanation
Apply professional judgment when coding transactions, including identifying prepaids, potential fixed assets, and non-business expenses
Identify and remove duplicate, unsupported, or irrelevant items
2. Leverage Automation & Cloud Tools Effectively
Use Dext efficiently to manage receipts and source documents, keeping inboxes clear and organized
Create and maintain supplier and bank rules to reduce repetitive work and improve efficiency
Use automation features thoughtfully while maintaining professional skepticism and data integrity
3. Execute Reconciliations with Logic & Accountability
Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations in QuickBooks Online or Xero
Investigate and resolve discrepancies using logic, historical review, and independent research before escalating
Maintain clean reconciliations with minimal unexplained items at month-end
4. Support Month-End Readiness
Ensure all reconciliations and schedules are completed on time and ready for review
Perform a first-pass review of P&L and Balance Sheet to catch obvious errors or anomalies
Ensure all entries are fully documented and audit-ready prior to Senior Accountant or Manager review
5. Workflow Discipline & Client Communication
Manage tasks and workflows consistently using internal project management tools
Keep task statuses up to date and communicate proactively when blockers arise
Communicate directly with clients to request information, clarify transactions, and resolve issues
Confidently follow up by phone or email when required to keep work moving forward
6. Professional Conduct & Independence
Work effectively and independently in a remote first environment
Demonstrate strong time management, organization, and accountability
Apply critical thinking by checking history, researching independently, and problem-solving before escalating questions
What We're Looking For
Bookkeeping Experience:
5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping experience
Cloud Accounting Expertise:
Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and related tools
Bilingual (English/French):
Considered a strong asset, however, not required
Remote Work Capability:
Ability to work effectively in a remote first environment with minimal supervision
Client-Confident Communicator:
Comfortable picking up the phone and engaging directly with clients when required
Highly Organized:
Able to manage multiple clients and priorities while maintaining accuracy
Detail-Oriented:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to clean, reliable books
Tech-Savvy:
Curious and confident with new tools, systems, and technology-driven workflows
Problem Solver:
Able to identify issues, ask questions, and resolve problems independently
