The Boiler Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and residential boiler systems. The role also supports heating, basic air conditioning, and light plumbing work. The technician will lead jobs on-site, mentor junior technicians/apprentices, and ensure all work complies with Ontario safety and technical standards. A valid Ontario G1 Gas Technician certification is a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities



Boiler & Heating Systems (Primary Focus)

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and residential boiler systems (hot water).

Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and efficiency checks on boilers, burners, pumps, and associated controls.

Install and commission new boiler systems, including piping connections, venting, controls, and safety devices.

Identify worn or failed components and recommend repair vs. replacement options.

Perform combustion analysis, adjust burners, and optimize system performance.

Ensure all gas-fired equipment work is completed in accordance with TSSA, manufacturer requirements, and company standards.

Gas Fitting (G1 Asset)

For G1-certified technicians: perform and oversee work on natural gas up to and including unlimited BTU input, including piping, appliances, and related accessories, as permitted by the license.

For non-G1 technicians: perform gas work within current license scope and support G1/G2 colleagues as required.

Verify gas pressures, leak-test systems, and ensure safe start-up and shutdown procedures.

Air Conditioning & HVAC Support

Troubleshoot and repair basic air conditioning issues

Perform preventive maintenance on split systems and packaged units (filter changes, coil cleaning, belt inspection, etc.).

Support installation and commissioning of AC/HVAC equipment as part of integrated heating/cooling projects.

Light Plumbing

Perform light plumbing associated with boiler and HVAC work, such as:

Connecting and repairing hydronic piping, valves, and circulators.

Installing and replacing expansion tanks, PRVs, drains, traps, and isolation valves.

Minor domestic water piping work related to boiler tie-ins (within license and company policy).

Identify plumbing issues beyond scope and escalate or coordinate with licensed plumbers as needed.

Leadership & Coordination

Lead on-site work crews, assign tasks, and ensure safe, efficient workflow.

Mentor and train apprentices and junior technicians in technical skills and safety practices.

Compliance, Safety & Documentation

Follow all OHSA and company safety policies, including use of PPE, lockout/tagout, and safe lifting practices.

Complete job reports, service tickets, and inspection forms accurately and on time.

Qualifications



Required:

Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a Boiler Technician / HVAC Technician with strong boiler background.

Current Ontario Gas Technician license (G2 or higher).

Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing hot water boiler systems.

Experience with basic air conditioning service and maintenance.

Experience with light plumbing related to hydronic/heating systems.

Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Clear, professional communication skills with both customers and team members.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
