Your Opportunity:

The Precision Oncology Hub laboratory at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre is recruiting a Senior Biostatistician. This position provides advanced biostatistical expertise to the researchers, research projects and quality improvement projects in the Department of Oncology at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and leads independent research of new scientific methodologies. The senior biostatistician will use their knowledge of statistics to collaborate with researchers in the design of clinical trials, develop guidelines and parameters for data gathering and conduct and oversee the analysis and interpretation of statistical data arising from scientific/cancer research. All Non-Union/Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusions in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.

Description:

The Biostatistician performs and leads advanced statistical analyses of data housed within relevant primary and administrative datasets, often involving large, complex datasets and linkage of multiple data sources. Analysis will require advanced knowledge of statistical techniques and development of novel statistical methods. Provides statistical analyses on image data and high-dimensional omics data. Provides supervision and mentorship to analysts, fellows and graduate students working on department-related projects. Completion of the statistical requirements of clinical trials from the design stage through the analytical, presentation and publication stages. Provides statistical consultation to and instructs researchers, assistants and students in the methods of statistical analysis and computing. Teaches and presents on statistical methods to a variety of audiences. Provides expertise on the input of data into systems to ensure data is usable in statistical analyses, generating reports and in tracking quality indicators. As a co-investigator or collaborator in grants, reviews and writes sections of the grant proposal in collaboration with multiple stakeholders. Provides expertise on the framing of research questions, determining outcomes and how they are measured. Determines appropriate methods of statistical analyses based on in-depth knowledge, discussions with collaborators, and by reviewing the current literature. Provides in-depth expertise and advisory support to stakeholders, professional staff and senior leaders on study design, implementation and execution of biostatistical models. Leads and investigates independent and collaborative multidisciplinary research within area of expertise, contributing to development of new scientific methodologies and published literature by identifying gaps in existing methods for improvement opportunities.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in Statistics or Biostatistics with ideally 1-2 years related experience or master\'s degree with 5 years of applicable experience. Accreditation (Associate or Professional) with the Statistical Society of Canada. Extensive knowledge of statistical theory and application. Specific experience with statistical analyses of complex and large datasets including advanced multivariate, longitudinal modeling, Bayesian methods, machine learning techniques including decision tree-based methods and regularized methodology. Advanced expertise with statistical software and program (SAS, R, Python or STATA) as well as graphics and presentation software used within the department is essential. Knowledge of image data analysis, functional and high-dimensional omics data analysis. Proven statistical computing skills are required. Experience working with data bases and sources.
Additional Required Qualifications:

Organized, resourceful and self-starting, with meticulous attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience translating biological processes and pathways into quantitative measures and testable hypotheses. Strong statistical capability and critical thinking ability to develop advanced statistical methods to innovate health data science.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a consultation instructional role in Cancer Clinical Trial design and implementation experience preferred.
