The Behavioral Lead provides specialized guidance and support in addressing the behavioral, emotional, and social challenges faced by youth in the agency's programs. This role collaborates with staff to implement trauma-informed strategies, de-escalate crises, and foster an environment that promotes safety, growth, and resilience. In addition, the Behavioral Lead collects, interprets, and reports data to identify trends, inform practice, and enhance program outcomes. The Behavioral Lead also mentors staff, models effective intervention techniques, and contributes to individualized and evidence-informed plans for youth.
Key Responsibilities
Behavioral Support and Intervention
Provide direct support to youth exhibiting challenging behaviors, utilizing trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
Develop and implement behavioral strategies tailored to individual needs, focusing on de-escalation and conflict resolution.
Respond to crises, ensuring the safety of youth and staff, and follow up with appropriate interventions.
Staff Coaching and Development
Mentor and coach staff on best practices for managing behavioral challenges and maintaining professional boundaries.
Model effective intervention techniques, including de-escalation, active listening, and positive reinforcement.
Assist with staff training and orientation on behavioral management and trauma-informed care principles.
Individualized Planning
Collaborate with program staff to develop, implement, and monitor individualized support plans for youth.
Contribute to case reviews and goal-setting, ensuring behavioral strategies align with youth needs and program goals.
Provide recommendations for adjustments to plans based on observations, outcomes, and emerging data trends.
Crisis Intervention and Prevention
Serve as the primary responder to crises involving behavioral escalations, providing guidance and support to staff and youth.
Identify patterns or triggers in behavior and recommend preventative strategies to reduce incidents.
Document critical incidents and provide detailed reports to Program Managers.
Program Data, Monitoring, and Reporting
Collect and record behavioral and program data on a monthly basis.
Analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and areas for improvement related to youth outcomes and staff interventions.
Prepare regular summaries and reports for Program Managers and the Executive Team to inform strategic planning and continuous quality improvement.
Contribute to the development of evidence-informed approaches by interpreting data and sharing findings across programs.
Program and Environmental Support
Ensure program environments are conducive to youth well-being by promoting safety, structure, and predictability.
Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
Monitor program spaces for potential risks and address them proactively.
Collaboration and Communication
Maintain effective communication with Program Managers, staff, and external service providers.
Participate in team meetings, sharing insights and updates related to youth behavior, trends, and progress.
Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., therapists, caseworkers) to align behavioral approaches with comprehensive care plans.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience
Degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with youth exhibiting complex behaviors in a trauma-informed setting.
Specialized training or certifications in behavioral management, crisis intervention, or related areas are assets.

Other Requirements
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift a minimum of 10 lbs.
Ability to perform light cleaning and facility oversight tasks as needed.
Regular attendance at meetings and responsiveness to program needs.
Working Conditions
Combination of office-based and field-based environments, including direct interaction with youth.
On-call responsibilities to provide after-hours support for crises and behavioral escalations.
