The Opportunity
The Bartender Lead assists in the smooth operation of the Habitat Pub and assist in the coordination of the entire front of house team. The Bartender Lead assists in ordering supplies, processes and accurately enters paperwork/invoicing, and programs the front and back end of the POS system. The Bartender Lead is also responsible for serving drinks to customers. You open, close, and stock the bar. You give friendly and efficient service to Pub customers with a positive and professional demeanor, accurate order taking, and the ability to balance different needs during the service cycle. You are a team player who helps other staff, especially during busy times. Finally, you clean, and stock as needed.
What You Will Do:
Customer Service
Build rapport with customers throughout service cycle with an authentic, friendly, helpful, and professional demeanour
Monitor the quality of service and food production standards, assisting with food expediting
Ensure customers are satisfied with ordered items and service quality
Resolve customer complaints and requests; inform management when appropriate
Develop and maintain a solid product knowledge to answer questions
Monitor customers' alcohol consumption and responsibly refuse service when appropriate
Inform management of any difficulties with customers or staff
Inform customers of upcoming events and promotions within the Pub or greater BCITSA
Bartending
Prepare the bar for service and complete closing procedures at the end of shifts
Prepare drinks as they are ordered and supply glassware to Servers
Answer questions regarding food items or drinks
Restock inventory as needed, including changing beer kegs and other consumables
Wash and stock glassware, sort recyclables, and maintain bar top cleanliness
Service Cycle
Prepare the bar for service and complete closing procedures at the end of shifts
Prepare drinks as they are ordered and supply glassware to Servers
Answer questions regarding food items or drinks
Restock inventory as needed, including changing beer kegs and other consumables
Wash and stock glassware, sort recyclables, and maintain bar top cleanliness
Cash Handling and Point of Sale (POS)
Input orders into POS terminal under the correct table number
Ensure the number of customers per table is inputted correctly
Verbally inform Kitchen of any abnormal requests or customers with allergies
Accurately divide and print bills according to customer requests
Carry out sales transactions using preferred method of payment, and close bills promptly
Perform cash out duties and tip out
Maintain float including change levels
Perform cash drop for day shift
Programming of the front and back-end POS system
Operational Duties
Understand, follow, and enforce all policies and procedures
Ensure Pub is a safe environment for all users
Fill out incident reports and report to Director of Food Services in a timely manner
Clear and clean tables after customers leave
Maintain clean and orderly workstations
Organize and clean menus, and roll cutlery at the end of shift and during shift, as needed
Set up tables for large groups
Perform closing cleaning duties and remove garbage
Rotate and stock food items and other supplies
Fill and clean all condiments, and make coffee
Perform any discounts for staff meals or coupons, and do voids ensuring there is a signature and reasoning for discount
Perform end-of-day closing procedures, including securing the Pub, setting alarms and locking doors (evening shift only)
Report any incidents and accidents to People & Culture and assist as needed (evening shift only)
Ensure Servers complete their side duties and assign duties as needed (evening shift only)
Inventory Control
Assists in monitoring inventory levels for purposes of ordering; inform Director, Food Services as needed
Assists in inventory counts and spot-inventories checks as required
Check reports of spillage and low-quality product, and report major write-offs to Director of Food Services
Assist in research and participate in vendor and product selection
Assist in investigations of any discrepancies in inventory or orders
Human Resources Management
Provide assistance with front of house staff schedule and staffing shortages, report to Director of Food Services
Assist in providing leadership to Pub staff with effective communication, clear expectations, and fairness
Delegate duties, assign sections, cut staff, and oversee special functions
Report any incidents and accidents to Director of Food Services and assist as needed
Collect, verify, and submit time sheets to the Director of Food Services for verification in Payroll system
Document damaged product received and report it to supplier for refund or exchange
Other Related Duties
Support Student Executives and staff members for their respective initiatives
Assist in training employees
Assist other staff with duties, especially when busy
Other related duties as required
About You:
The Bartender Lead is responsible for providing friendly and efficient service to our Habitat Pub customers with a positive and professional demeanor, accurate order taking, and the ability to balance different needs during the service cycle. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Serving it Right Certification required
1-2 years of Bartending experience
1 year of experience in a serving role
High School Diploma or equivalent
KNOWELDGE & ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
REQUIREMENTS
Attention to detail and accuracy
Must be able to lift and carry up to 11kg (25lbs), bend, crouch, climb, and stand for long periods
