to oversee all aspects of market hog production across three finishing barns. This role involves full responsibility for barn preparation, receiving and caring for feeder pigs, managing animal health and growth to market weight, coordinating shipping, and ensuring cleanliness, maintenance, and operational efficiency.
Candidates with livestock management experience are preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of animal care and overall farm performance.
Seasonal on-farm work opportunities may also be available, including operating farm equipment, performing barn maintenance such as pressure washing, and assisting with other general farm duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily care, feeding, and monitoring of all hogs to ensure optimal health and performance.
Perform a full chore routine daily -- walk each pen, assess animal health, and provide appropriate treatment and support for compromised animals.
Receive feeder pigs with strict adherence to biosecurity protocols.
Train pigs to move through scales and handle equipment comfortably; weigh and sort market-ready pigs.
Load market hogs for transport as per scheduling and driver instructions.
Maintain barn facilities, including ventilation, feeding, and watering systems, completing minor repairs when possible.
Monitor bin levels, track feed usage, and coordinate feed orders with suppliers.
Serve as the primary contact for barn-related matters including alarms, logistics, feed suppliers, and veterinarians.
Skills & Qualifications:
General understanding of hog production and animal husbandry.
High attention to detail and a commitment to animal welfare.
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
Solid communication and record-keeping skills.
Problem-solving ability and willingness to take initiative.
Physically capable of working with large livestock in a farm environment.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed.
Additional Details:
Housing is available after a successful probationary period, if required.
