Position Summary:
As Banquet Captain, you'll be the driving force behind the seamless execution of banquets and meetings. You'll oversee the setup, service, and breakdown of events, ensuring every detail aligns with client expectations and Wanuskewin's high standards. From coordinating with kitchen staff to mentoring banquet servers, you'll lead with confidence and grace, making sure every guest leaves with a smile
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise banquet servers to ensure efficient, high-quality service
Create and manage staffing schedules based on event needs
Train and mentor team members to uphold service excellence
Interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and oversee setup, service, and AV troubleshooting
Meet with conveners to review event details and ensure satisfaction
Deliver menu items and clear banquet tables during events
Address guest needs and resolve issues promptly
Prepare and execute room setup and closing check sheets
Attend weekly BEO meetings
Support the Food & Beverage Manager in building a cohesive, high-performing team
Uphold safety standards in all aspects of work
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of hospitality service experience
Combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
CPR and First Aid certification (asset)
Food Safe Level 1 (asset)
Customer Service Certificate (asset)
Knowledge of restaurant and catering practices
Familiarity with Indigenous Plains culture
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
Strong multitasking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Physical Requirements:
Physically fit. Able to stand, walk, lift throughout the shift
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
Additional Requirements:
A satisfactory criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and present a satisfactory drivers abstract.
