Job Summary
Play an important role in leading provincial multiculturalism and anti-racism programs and strategies

The Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Branch manages the successful completion of projects and initiatives of strategic importance to the Government of British Columbia. The Branch ensures that the Government\xe2\x80\x99s anti-racism mandate commitments and its legislative obligations under the Multiculturalism Act are fulfilled with three core objectives: championing anti-racism across government, addressing systemic discrimination, and supporting communities to respond to racism and hate. Reporting to the Executive Director, Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism, the Director, Communications and Strategic Engagement is responsible for managing strategic partnerships and relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders; leading the planning, development and delivery of strategic engagement initiatives to support new or enhanced program and policy initiatives. The Director is responsible for strategic management for and support of government\xe2\x80\x99s advisory bodies and cross ministry working groups. The position also leads strategic engagement with the First Nations Leadership Council, M\xc3\xa9tis Nation BC and other racialized and community groups as identified. This role is responsible for the Proclamation Program and annual Report on Multiculturalism, tabled in the BC Legislature each year in compliance with BC\xe2\x80\x99s Multiculturalism Act. Working in a high profile and fast-paced environment, the Director will develop and manage ongoing strategic public engagement initiatives to support the implementation of the new Anti-Racism Data Act and new Anti-Racism Legislation. The Director will strategically engage with Indigenous, racialized, marginalized, and excluded groups in a way that translates the priorities of government in a meaningful way.

Job Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in social science, business or public administration, communications, media relations, human resource management or a related field plus 5 years of relevant experience as described below. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Relevant experience must include all of the following:
  • Providing communications advice and recommendations to senior executives (e.g. Executive Directors, Associate Deputy Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Ministers, Cabinet or equivalent senior executive role).
  • Experience establishing collaborative relationships with senior leaders and executives in support of corporate and/or mandated goals.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders.
  • Experience balancing conflicting values and negotiating/mediating solutions.
Preferences may be given to the following:
  • The Multiculturalism and Anti Racism Branch will work closely with the Accessibility Secretariat, Indigenous Relations & Reconciliation, Gender Equity Office, and the Diversity & Inclusion team at the BC Public Service Agency. Preference may be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous, Black or a person of colour (IBPOC), people who identify as LGBTQ2S+ and/or people with disabilities may have lived experiences of systemic discrimination and thus would have important perspectives to bring to this work.
