Position: Bakery Quality Manager

Reports to: Manufacturing Quality Manager

Quality Responsibilities:

  • Leads and develops on-shift Quality professionals that provide round-the-clock support, stewardship, and governance for quality and food safety to the bakery.
  • Serves as member of bakery leadership team working closely and collaboratively with other functional departments to drive initiatives and manage daily bakery functions.
  • Serves as Food Safety and Quality subject matter expert. Provides and oversees regular food safety and quality training for bakery employees.
  • Functions as HACCP team leader, leads team in hazard analyses, HACCP plan development, and verification and validation activities.
  • Reviews and verifies quality / food safety records, including CCP, follows up on issues noted and files. Serves as PCQI.
  • Schedules, assigns, leads, and conducts daily inspections, monthly self-inspections, internal audits and enforces GMP's. Follows up on issues, facilitates root cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensures environmental program is followed, including swabbing equipment, drains, floor, etc and submits samples for laboratory analysis. Follows up with root cause and corrective actions with Sanitation and other impacted departments if results are out of specification.
  • Performs on-line process checks and verification checks on CCPs and follows up on issues noted.
  • Schedules, assigns, oversees, and conducts regular quality and food safety checks of finished products and provides immediate feedback to production supervisors, managers and quality management. Where specifications are not met, manages product disposition appropriately.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of the traceability program (verifies lot numbers on ingredients against information on the processing documents). Participates in mock recalls.
  • Assesses and assures the effectiveness of the allergen control program.
  • Assists with investigations of consumer/customer complaints and in supplier management program.
  • Verifies the accuracies of measuring devices (thermometers and scales).
  • Assists in carrying out assessments, inspections and audits (including BRC audit) as required by legislative or corporate requirements.
  • Work with customers and R&D team to develop product specifications.
  • Prepare and inspect documents, lead the Organizational team during BRC audits, Customer audits, Regulatory audits.
  • Oversees pest control (managed by third party)
  • Oversees prerequisite programs including hygiene practices, cleaning and sanitation
  • Assist with backing up Bakery Leadership positions to cover vacations
  • Manages supplies needed for Quality testing
Requirements:
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with managers, supervisors and production floor employees
  • Excellent oral and written English skills
  • Skill to document findings and data clearly, concisely and accurately
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skill
  • Able to work flexible hours and shifts (afternoon/nights) including weekends
Education:
  • Knowledge of GFSI (preferably BRC), food safety (HACCP) programs, Preventive Controls, and Quality Systems
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • 3-5 years QA experience in a food plant
  • Strong Microsoft office skills. SAP, Tracegains knowledge is preferred
