Job Description


Overview

The Technician provides technical support for the Mechatronic Vehicle Systems (MVS) Lab research team in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. This involves software, electrical circuit, and electric panel designs for different MVS lab projects including electric vehicles, robots, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and autonomous systems. The computer codes need to be run in real time both in hardware-in-the-loop and real systems. This position reports to Prof. Amir Khajepour and MVS Lab Director.

This role is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

Technical Support for Mechatronic Vehicle Systems

  • Test vehicle fabrication and assembly
  • Vehicle operation for testing and data collection
  • Human interface development
  • Support for autonomous vehicle system testing
  • Design and construct simple analog and/or digital circuits, specific to research projects
  • Assist with the design and development of research equipment and methods
Technical Support for MVS Students
  • Support students in their research experiments
  • Create and develop software code for experimental setups
  • Develop written instructions and manuals
  • Supervise, instruct, and assist with MVS lab student projects
Health and Safety
  • Promote and maintain safety standards
  • Manage and maintain MSDS inventory, and equipment inventory
  • Conduct workplace inspections in areas assigned
  • Maintain training levels
Qualifications
  • College diploma in Engineering with a focus on Software and Automation
  • Work experience in automation companies
  • A strong aptitude for software, control, and electrical technologies and systems is essential. Must have good knowledge and operational experience in many of the following areas:
  • PLC coding
  • Real-time software design
  • Matlab/Simulink
  • Robotics
  • Electrical assembly, diagnostics and repair
  • Embedded system design, and prototyping
  • Control Systems
  • Data acquisition and Monitoring
  • Sensor and actuator selection, sourcing, installation, calibration, and filtering
  • Safety standards and procedures
  • Working outside of normal hours might be occasionally required to deal with emergencies, maintenance, extended run experiments, or upgrades
  • Heavy lifting and use of power tools
