About the roleFinding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.We are looking for an Automation Engineer/Advisor - Control Systems who possesses strong technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills to aid with production optimization and technological advancement projects. The Engineer/Advisor is a professional role making contribution through applying technical/professional knowledge to solve complex problems and recommend solutions. Role occasionally contributes to process improvements. This role will be residentially based in Labrador City.This role is a great opportunity to contribute to the organization\'s safety and profitability while developing as a technical expert.Working 5 days on, 2 days off roster and reporting to the Senior Advisor - Control & Automation you will be responsible for:
  • Assess feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions, equipment, or processes
  • Improve and upgrade existing assets and applies complex problem-solving techniques
  • Provide PLC and automation/controls engineering support for ongoing and new projects
  • Assist areas with daily troubleshooting activities and provide analysis of available data to determine root causes
  • Coordinate project activities with other operating, engineering units and stakeholders to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion
  • Develop automation and control strategies to optimize equipment capabilities and plant production
  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical and functional knowledge of logic solvers and field equipment (intelligent relays, VFDs, instrumentation, etc.)
  • Assist with upgrade/modernization of existing obsolete and/or non-supported control system equipment (ex. PLC-5, DeviceNet, VFDs, etc.)

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Computer/Controls/Process/Electrical Engineering or equivalent with automation specialty
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in engineering and/or maintenance
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with relevant field experience
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Ability to work independently with little direction
  • Knowledge of Auto Cad
The following additional skills will be considered as key assets to the role:
  • Expertise in iron ore processing and/or mining and working in operational areas
  • PLC and/or DCS programming experience
  • HMI programming experience
  • Familiarity with Pi systems
  • Familiarity with SAP
