Autism Outreach Coordinator (ANS)

to support individuals in navigating employment, education, and self-employment pathways across Nova Scotia.


This role is available in multiple locations and can be structured as full-time or part-time. It requires a combination of in-office, community-based, and remote work, with regular local and provincial travel.

About the Role

As an Autism Outreach Coordinator, you will provide individualized support to Autistic job seekers as they explore employment, post-secondary, and entrepreneurial opportunities. You'll build strong relationships with local service providers, employment agencies, and educational institutions to bridge gaps and ensure access to inclusive and appropriate services.


You'll serve as both a connector and advocate -- empowering individuals while educating communities on inclusive employment practices.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Community Engagement

Engage in proactive outreach to identify and support Autistic job seekers across the province. Collaborate with local employment agencies and service providers to coordinate individualized employment supports. Conduct awareness activities at post-secondary institutions, community groups, and events. Provide education on autism and inclusive employment to community stakeholders. Build and maintain a client network to share opportunities, resources, and referrals. Travel regularly for community engagement, outreach, and client support.

Job Seeker Intake & Support

Conduct one-on-one intake meetings to understand job seekers' goals, strengths, support needs, and employment history. Provide direct support with resume writing, interview preparation, job searching, and workplace accommodations. Connect individuals with local employment support services, and provide navigation assistance as needed. Offer ongoing follow-up to monitor progress, troubleshoot barriers, and celebrate successes.

Documentation & Reporting

Maintain up-to-date and confidential client records in accordance with organizational protocols. Complete required data entry, quarterly reports, and outcome tracking. Contribute to the continuous improvement of service delivery through feedback and insight.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Community Development). 2+ years of experience working with youth and/or adults. 2+ years of experience supporting individuals on the autism spectrum. Proven experience assisting individuals in achieving employment-related goals. Familiarity with person-directed planning, inclusive employment strategies, and post-secondary options. Understanding of the disability employment and social services landscape.

Skills & Competencies

Strong commitment to full inclusion and neurodiversity-affirming practices. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Empathy, patience, and strong problem-solving abilities. Excellent time management, documentation, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Excel and basic data tracking tools.

Certifications & Requirements

CPR-C and First Aid (current or willingness to obtain). Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training (current or willingness to maintain). Clear Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry Check. Valid Nova Scotia Driver's License and reliable vehicle. Comfortable driving in a variety of weather and road conditions across the province.

Working Conditions

Combination of in-office, remote, and community-based work. Local and provincial travel required. Occasional evening and weekend hours for outreach, community events, or meetings. Must be comfortable working in diverse environments (e.g., community agencies, campuses, job sites).

Salary:

$50,000 Annually
