Job Description

Audio/Visual Technician Lead (AV/Tech Lead)

Role Summary:

The A/V Tech Lead serves as part of the Worship Team and is expected to configure, operate, and troubleshoot all audio/visual equipment used in the execution of weekly Sunday morning services and other events that use AV systems in the Sanctuary. This includes audio and video equipment connection, sound board setup/configuration, sound checks and other testing, sound board operation during services, and managing the live-streaming process. The Tech will also lead the team of volunteer technicians.

Key Responsibilities:

Specific Events

Worship Services: Over the course of the year there will be worship services every Sunday morning, and a few extra services at other times (ex/ Christmas Eve, etc.) Congregational Meetings: There will be a minimum of three congregational meetings (2 in January and 1 in March or April) that happen after a regular Sunday Service. Additional congregation meetings may be scheduled by the Board or Church Executive with notice to the AVTech Lead and congregation. In addition to the above two events there are two types of events: Internal 'rentals' and external rentals. The AVTech Lead will have the first right of refusal for supporting these rentals.

Event Responsibilities

Arrive prior to the event to set up equipment and ensure everything is in working order. On Sundays, attend the Worship Team Meeting to walk through the logistics of the service. Distribute microphones to those who will need them and be prepared to immediately carry out sound checks. Provide support for sound and visual elements through the event. After the event, secure equipment and leave the sound booth in good working order. Provide direction to volunteer technicians about their role in a given event.

AVTech Oversight and Coordination

Finalize and maintain operation manuals, trouble shooting guide, and training materials. Provide routine maintenance to equipment, including procuring regular supplies, such as batteries. Advise on necessary maintenance and replacement plan for equipment. AVTech is currently managed by volunteers. In addition to taking on the above oversight responsibilities, the AV Tech Lead will coordinate the team of volunteers ensuring the appropriate tech coverage by scheduling volunteers for both Church events and outside events (every Sunday event, and many of the other events will require 2 people in the tech booth, one to operate audio and the other video). Recruiting and training additional volunteers as needed.

Reporting Relationship

The A/V Tech Lead reports directly to the Support Services Manager and will often coordinate their work with the minister. The Minister is the chief of staff.

Time Commitment

This position requires the AVTech Lead to be available weekly on Sunday mornings (9:30 am - 12:00 pm). With additional administrative responsibilities, it is estimated that the time commitment will average 4 hours per week. In the case that the number of hours for this Core Work is anticipated to be substantially higher than 4 hours in a week, the Tech Lead will notify and obtain approval from the Social Services Manager.

Additional Church Events and Rentals occur that require Tech Support. The AV/Tech Lead will have first right of refusal to cover these events.

Any vacation or time off needed must be coordinated with the Support Services Manager ahead of time. All work will be paid on an hourly basis, compensated at $40/hour.
