As ATB’s next Associate Vice President, Strategy & Planning
you will design the ATB Strategy framework and lead the operations of the Strategic Coordination Office (SCO). ATB has defined a bold 10 year vision to FY2030 and is entering a crucial point in the cycle. This position is responsible to steward, continuously evolve, and translate ATB’s corporate strategy from planning through to delivery and value generation. You will ensure that ATB is on track to achieve its long term objectives, and that material trends, market changes, and emerging opportunities are continuously incorporated into the planning process. You will work closely with ATB’s senior leadership and executive teams and ensure stakeholders are engaged and aligned during the key points in the strategy cycle.

  • Design, deliver and lead ATB’s annual planning cycle which includes strategy review, business planning, business casing, and roadmapping
  • Monitor applicable trends in Canada and internationally, and translate these trends into clear impacts to ATB, plotting a response path into ATB’s strategy and roadmap
  • Provide strategy recommendations that take the holistic picture (internal, client, market, vendor, etc.) into account including discipline knowledge, market knowledge, client needs, functional expertise, cross-Areas of Expertise (AOE) requirements, and enterprise capacity
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels across the enterprise to ensure implications of market changes are embedded into strategy, business, and operating plans
  • Continuously identify opportunities, and provide recommendations to enable ATB’s corporate strategy, such as but not limited to operating model, capability building, technology development etc.
  • Build on existing SCO capabilities to develop a best in class internal strategy and planning function, also serving as a talent feeder to the wider organization
  • Manage the daily operations of the Strategic Coordination Office including milestone tracking, initiative prioritization, internal and external analysis, and communications regarding strategic developments
  • Monitor progress against strategy and provides guidance to ATB’s Senior Leadership Team on reporting requirements and shifts in reporting needs that reflect enterprise strategy and associated objectives
  • Scale the corporate strategy and associated opportunities by integrating the SCO with the broader enterprise
  • Support ATB’s Senior Leadership Team to translate the corporate strategy into discrete initiatives and facilitates a data driven prioritization process
  • Evangelize, encourage, and demonstrate ATB’s culture and strategy through proactive leadership, collaboration, role modeling, and talent development
Requirements
  • Post secondary degree in a Business discipline or related field
  • Background in strategy consulting or a related function considered an asset
  • Seasoned professional with a depth of experience in strategy setting, business & market analysis, and planning & delivery management
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrable personal growth and management responsibilities
  • Experience operating at Executive Committee and Board level of a medium sized Financial Institution
  • Deep understanding of the Financial Services industry in Canada and globally, with specialized expertise in retail banking, business banking, and/or wealth management
  • Ability to lead and influence teams in large matrixed organizations (without formal authority), building strong relationships and driving shared outcomes
  • Strong facilitator with background in designing and executing workshops for senior stakeholder groups
  • Excellent communicator with ability to express complex ideas at varying levels of abstraction through written and verbal channels
  • Ability to guide qualitative and quantitative analysis including competitor, market, trend, and business casing etc.
  • Bring breadth of industry expertise, using trends and knowledge to encourage thinking beyond current state
