Position Title
Associate Dean, Continuing Education and Corporate Training
Position Summary
In an entrepreneurial environment, the Associate Dean is responsible for academic leadership within the Division of Continuing Education and Corporate Training and promotes excellence within a learner-centred environment.
Leading a comprehensive client-focused team, the Associate Dean has overall responsibility for the development/redevelopment, delivery and assessment of programs and curriculum to contribute to the schools reputation as a hub of innovation and incubation for lifelong learning programming.
The Associate Dean is responsible for key decision making in relation to program and course development within the Division, and for achieving strategic and financial targets.
The Associate Dean utilizes flexibility and creativity to execute the programming goals of the school to meet community needs while meeting the fiscal targets of the Division.
The Associate Dean provides support and mentorship as the direct supervisor to staff and instructors including work plans and professional development to ensure delivery of consistently high-quality learning experiences.
As a member of the Division of Continuing Education and Corporate Training Leadership Team, the Associate Dean works with the Dean and other colleagues to establish and implement Divisional and program goals and objectives to enable an institutional culture of life-long learning and academic excellence in a learning-centered environment.
Position Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
Provides leadership in the development of new programs and pathways following the current and future trends in adult education and lifelong learning as well as Industry 4.0/The Future of Work
Supports academic excellence in the development, delivery, assessment and review of programs in the learning-centered environment
Establishes instructor standards as well as orientation and training requirements for non-credit programing
Manages projects related to new and reimagined programming directions and opportunities
Promotes progressive learner-centered delivery models in the development and revision of curriculum and facilitates the approval of curriculum in compliance with the non-credit policy and ensures design of laddering and stacking to credit programs where appropriate
Fosters broad relationships and partnerships to facilitate creative & strong academic programming
Ensures responsible and effective use of resources to support staff development and excellence in the teaching and learning environment
Operationalizes and interprets Collective Agreements and Polytechnic Policy as they apply to Divisional operations, in conjunction with other Associate Deans, Dean, Division of Continuing Education and Corporate Training and Human Resources
Responsible for recruitment and selection, retention, training, supervision, performance reviews, and where necessary discipline and dismissal of reporting staff (in consultation with Dean, Division of CECT and People and Culture)
Demonstrates accountability for Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities
Innovation, Incubation, and Scholarly Activity
Facilitates the growth and incubation of new programs, micro-credentials industry speed design within the Division in support of continuous innovation for our region and the economic, social and cultural growth of our communities
Facilitates the development of micro-credentials, and alternative delivery models through various means to internal and external audiences in both credit and non-credit courses/programs
Facilitates a structure and process for laddering and stacking micro-credentials into traditional certificates, diplomas and degree programs
Facilitates the generation of resources (funds, facilities, equipment, partnerships, etc.) to support engagement of staff and students in developing alterative pathways for new and reimagined programs.
Internal and External Liaison
The Associate Dean ensures effective communication, collaboration, and liaison with internal and external parties.
Internal communication and collaboration across departments, divisions, schools and service areas including Marketing, Information Technology Systems, and the Academic Portfolio.
Financial Management
Sets annual financial targets in collaboration with the Division of CECT Management Team and effectively allocates resources within established budgets and monitors for effectiveness
Ensures that programming complies with financial formulas outlined in the non-credit Programming policy
Monitors budget and targets and adjusts staffing based on revenues
Required Qualifications
Education
:Relevant Master's Degree from a recognized institution A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Experience
:A minimum of 3 years of related experience in adult education and lifelong learning.
A minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including direct supervision of employees (recruitment, selection, development, coaching, performance assessment)
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Proven ability to manage revenue generation/cost recovery budgets and achieve financial targets
Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and the management of change initiatives

Proven success in the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum and programs
Proven ability to work collaboratively across organizational lines and divisions in furthering organizational goals
Demonstrated success with the application of educational technology
Demonstrated analytical, research, critique, and problem solving & problem finding skills
A team player with an inclusive leadership style that inspires trust and confidence
Proven ability to promote a positive environment through honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior consistent with the core values of Red Deer Polytechnic
Demonstrated experience in creative outcomes and agile leadership

This role has a salary range of $113,096 to $137,469 and is an Exempt role.

This role is eligible to receive professional development funds equivalent to 3% of their annual salary pro-rated to their start date. The successful candidate will also be eligible to apply for reimbursement to pursue the completion of advanced credentials.
To assist in reducing the financial impact of relocating, this role is eligible for reimbursement of reasonable relocation expensive per the Polytechnic's policy.
