Could It Be You?The purpose of the Associate Counsel is to provide comprehensive legal support for Questrade Financial Group\'s growing businesses, enabling the company to achieve its strategic objectives while minimizing legal risk and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.What\xe2\x80\x99s it like working as an Associate Counsel at Questrade?As Associate Counsel at Questrade Financial Group, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our diverse and expanding business lines. You will handle a broad range of legal matters, gaining valuable experience in areas such as contract negotiation and drafting, regulatory compliance, marketing and advertising law, corporate governance, and litigation support. Keep reading\xe2\x80\xa6In this role, the Associate Counsel will be responsible for:
  • Contract reviews, including negotiation and drafting
  • Marketing collateral and communications reviews
  • Board reporting and governance activities
  • Estates matters
  • Litigation support
  • Forms reviews and updates
  • Developing and maintaining policies and procedures
  • Making regulatory or legal filings/applications
  • Handling operational issues / complaints / escalations to the Legal department
  • Providing legal opinions or advice on various matters
  • Supporting M&A and integration activities
  • Advocating or negotiating on behalf of QFG
The Associate Counsel is expected to:
  • Ensure advice provided is joined up, meets the business needs, is able to be operationalized and is sustainable
  • Fulfill requests for interpretation or guidance and provide clear actionable recommendations supported by research and analysis for subject matter referred to the Legal department
  • Work cooperatively with multiple departments
  • Take ownership of treating and completing all tasks as assigned or taken on
  • Exhibit the highest level of ethics, accountability and professionalism in all aspects of the job

  • Hold a J.D. or LL.B, and are licensed to practice law in Canada
  • Have at least 2 years of relevant post-call experience
  • Have excellent communication, client relationship, and drafting skills
  • Have the ability to manage multiple competing tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Have sound legal and business judgment to provide practical solutions to complex issues
  • Have strong negotiation skills and the ability to quickly get to the key issues and present persuasive legal positions
  • Have a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Act at all times in concert with QFG\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision and values
  • Are a team player, conscientious, diligent, trustworthy, inspire confidence, and a good listener
  • Anticipate issues, use time effectively, and produce results
