Responsibilities:

  • Reconciles the City of Kitchener's bank accounts in a timely fashion to ensure discovery of banking errors as well as to help identify any issues of fraud/theft
  • Investigates and resolves bank debit/credit memos
  • A/P vendor file management: create new/modify existing SAP vendor profiles in SAP; distinguish between regular, T4A vendor or small supplier; set up and confirmation of vendor EFT banking information; follow up on returned EFT vendor payments
  • Prepares journal entries, deposits, uploads, reconciliations, and analysis of financial information while ensuring compliance with Public Sector Accounting Board Standards, legislative requirements and corporate policies and procedures
  • Assists in the preparation and compilation of working papers for the year-end audit file and works with external auditors for both the interim and year end audits.
  • Prepares various uploads (monthly VISA upload, month end uploads including Hydro, Utilities, Parking etc.)
  • SAP Concur and VISA administration and assists in monitoring the Concur help desk
  • Daily review of Appzen (Concur's audit detect software) to ensure compliance with employee expense policies and procedures
  • Assists other accounting staff as required
  • Participates on other special projects/cross functional teams as directed by management in the Accounting Division
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record and ability to support and project values compatible with the organization
  • 3 year Business Administration - Accounting or equivalent diploma
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience in an accounting/financial capacity and have an in depth understanding of GAAP and PSAB with the ability to apply to specific circumstances
  • Experience working with ERP systems, preferably SAP Financial, Financial Accounting and Controlling module
  • Experience in preparation of detailed or non-structured financial analysis and reconciliations
  • Possess highly developed computer skills, particularly in the use of advanced spreadsheets, word processing, databases and report writers
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
