Leong Centre for Healthy Aging and the Life Sciences Institute invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. Our internationally recognized research faculty, part of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, have strengths investigating the molecular, cellular and systems processes relevant to complex biological function and human disease. We have widespread collaborations within the department, the Life Sciences Institute and the broader scientific community including but not limited to the regional hospitals and women\xe2\x80\x99s health initiatives.We are seeking an outstanding candidate using innovative/creative approaches to investigate fundamental physiological mechanisms relevant to ageing and disease; we welcome applicants using diverse approaches and model systems. The successful applicant must have a PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent, with excellent communication skills, a track record of excellence in research and a commitment to innovative teaching. They will be expected to establish an independent research program focused on fundamental physiological mechanisms in health and disease over the course of the lifespan, and to compete for national and international operating grants. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs in cellular and molecular physiology, and to the success of the Department, the Centre for Healthy Aging and the Life Sciences Institute (LSI).Research and office space will be assigned in the modern, highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment within the LSI. An emerging research theme in the LSI is biological resilience, offering many opportunities for collaboration. The successful applicant will have access to state-of-the-art core facilities within the LSI and other research centers on the UBC campus and will be eligible to apply for infrastructure funds for highly specialized equipment. A generous start-up package will be provided along with protected time in the first years of the appointment to establish a competitive research program. The starting salary, paid by the Department, is $130,000 - $140,000 per annum. There are automatic, annual, salary increases for career progress, and competitive merit-based increases available through the Department and from external awards.
