Acknowledging that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi'kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Arts (Master of Arts in Island Studies program; MAIS) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) welcomes applications from exceptional candidates for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level to teach graduate-level courses in the MAIS program and in the soon-to-be-launched Master of Cleantech Leadership and Transformation (MCLT) program.The Island Studies program at the University of Prince Edward Island is home to the MAIS program, the Institute of Island Studies (IIS), the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability, and Island Studies Press, creating a synergy that lives up to the IIS's vision: To be the leading centre of excellence on issues related to island studies scholarship, public policy and engagement. Housed in the Faculty of Arts, the MAIS program has been a global leader in Island Studies graduate education for over two decades. Both the MAIS program and the IIS play a pivotal role in Prince Edward Island public policy formation, bridging the University and the community. They also serve as a hub for a network of island studies scholars and teachers throughout the world.Housed in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, the MCLT is an innovative transdisciplinary graduate program that aims to educate and cultivate transformative leaders who bridge traditional and emerging knowledge systems and drive cleantech innovation for a sustainable future. The MCLT's first cohort is expected to begin in Fall 2025.The anticipated start date of this appointment is July 1, 2025. Appointment rank, step and salary are commensurate with credentials and experience, and subject to final budgetary approval.The successful candidate will be expected to:

• teach graduate-level courses in Island Studies and in the Cleantech program focused on island public policy and governance, energy innovation on small islands, social responsibility, small island economic development strategies, and the socioeconomic implications of cleantech transitions.
• have a commitment to experiential education and implementing inquiry-based learning in the classroom;
• contribute to ongoing curriculum development in both MAIS and MCLT programs;
• collaborate in interdisciplinary teams across the MCLT faculty;
• work in conjunction with Cleantech Academy staff and the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The candidate may also act as Academic Director of the MCLT.
• contribute to the scholarship and pedagogy associated with island sustainability;
• contribute to both Faculty of Arts and University service.
• demonstrate a commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Decolonization and Accessibility (EDIDA) and to advancing reconciliation through higher education.

Charlottetown and its surrounding communities offer charming housing options, a low crime rate, and a semi-rural lifestyle that is second-to-none.Qualifications:Successful candidates must have earned or be close to completing a doctoral degree in island studies, environmental studies, geography, political science, economics, sociology, anthropology, interdisciplinary studies, or a related discipline with a focus on sustainability or cleantech applications. They should also have a commitment to and/or experience with experiential learning or inquiry-based learning in the classroom. A strong track record of interdisciplinary research in island studies, with relevance to cleantech, policy, and sustainability or related fields. Postdoctoral and/or industrial and/or professional experience, or skills gained through collaborative work with industry and/or community; experience in team-teaching, and inquiry-based learning will be considered an asset. Experience in teaching graduate courses would be an asset, as is professional experience working in the public sector in areas of public policy or clean technology. Lived experience and professional collaborations with islands are highly desirable.
