Alberta Health Services (AHS) is Canada\'s first and largest province-wide, fully integrated health system, responsible for delivering health services to the over four million people living in Alberta as well as to some residents of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The Stollery Children\'s Hospital is a full-service pediatric hospital and centre for complex pediatric care and research. It is the only specialized healthcare facility for infants, children and youth in central and northern Alberta. It has among the highest inpatient volumes of any children\'s hospital in Canada and serves a geographical area of over 500,000 km. The Stollery children\'s Hospital is the Western Canada pediatric lung transplant centre accepting referrals from Manitoba through to BC.
The successful applicant will join eight academic pediatric respirologists providing a full spectrum of clinical respiratory medicine services. In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has a fully accredited Pediatric respirology subspecialty-training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The division also has an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally, and internationally.
Responsibilities
This position is a 1.0 full-time equivalent and will comprise approximately 50% clinical service and 50% academic pursuits with a clinical and academic focus on sleep medicine and home ventilation. The focus on sleep medicine may include but is not limited to, research excellence, national/international leadership, or educational excellence. Consequently, advanced degrees supporting an academic focus (e.g., PhD, MBA) would be an asset. Of note, contributions to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are expected from all faculty.
Qualifications
Interested applicants must hold an MD and must have completed a subspecialty residency in Pediatric Respirology, and be certified or eligible to become a fellow in Pediatric Respirology of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (See the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for more information on various routes of credentialing (https://www.royalcollege.ca/en/credentials-exams/exam-eligibility.html) or equivalent. Additional training in sleep medicine and/or recent experience caring for pediatric patients with sleep disorders are considered assets.
Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful academic alternate funding plan.
