The Department of Education in the School of Education and Health at CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position (Subject to Budget Approval) in Curriculum Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position will commence January 1, 2024 (or as soon as possible thereafter).One of Canadas youngest and most ambitious universities, CBU recognizes its location on Cape Breton Island as part of Mikmaki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mikmaq people. Strong community involvement and a spirit of entrepreneurship enhance CBUs position in post-secondary education.The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive knowledge of recent and historical debates in curriculum and is able to interpret these critically. Candidates with an established (or developing) program of research in critical curriculum studies, employing the lenses of critical consciousness; decolonisation; social conscience; living curriculum; re/humanization; sustainability; and creativity are especially encouraged to apply. Ideally these same values will also infuse the candidates teaching. The successful candidate will teach and supervise graduate students in critical curriculum studies and may be required also to work with pre-service teachers. As the department is expanding its program offerings, opportunities exist to contribute to course development on the BEd and masters programs. Prior experience in course design is an asset.Candidates should have a relevant PhD (or a PhD in Ed.D.). Candidates who are in the later stages of their PhD may be considered with the successful completion of the PhD being a condition of employment.CBU teaches programs on campus, off campus in locations across and outside of Canada, and on-line. The university and its partners will therefore provide opportunities for faculty members to teach in different modes in different locations as part of their regular workload.
