The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Holland Bone and Joint Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto are inviting applications for an early-career academic full-time faculty orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma, pelvis/acetabular and lower extremity (hip/knee) joint reconstruction surgery. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for July 1, 2024. Applicants in training who have plans for completion of the aforementioned fellowships will be considered.
The successful candidate should have a strong track-record of research productivity and clinical training with a focus on orthopaedic trauma including pelvis/acetabular surgery, and lower extremity (hip/knee) joint reconstruction. It is expected that the candidate will establish an academic surgical practice and focus most of their clinical activity on orthopaedic trauma and urgent surgery, with the remaining focused on scheduled lower extremity reconstruction (e.g. post-traumatic, hip/knee arthroplasty, hip joint preservation) surgery. In keeping with the academic focus of the Division and the Department of Surgery, the recruit will commit at least 50% of their time to formal academic activities.
The successful candidate should have graduate level training in a relevant area of research that is aligned with Sunnybrook Research Institute\xe2\x80\x99s programs or platforms in evaluative clinical sciences, biological sciences or the physical sciences (https://sunnybrook.ca/research/). Preference will be given to candidates with Master or PhD-level training. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research profile and contribute to the academic mission of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Holland Bone and Joint Program, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Surgery, and Sunnybrook Research Institute. Academic expertise in artificial intelligence, health services research, quality improvement, education research, and translational \xe2\x80\x98bench-to-clinic\xe2\x80\x99 discovery research will be considered. As a member of the Department of Surgery and the University of Toronto, the candidate is expected to participate in education of learners at all levels. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.
The successful candidate will join an academic Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. The appropriate early-career candidate for this hospital Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC) position needs to be eligible for hospital appointment as active staff, as well as for a university appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The candidate must also be eligible for appointment as an Associate Scientist or Scientist in Sunnybrook Research Institute.

The hospital Division of Orthopaedic Surgery performs over 5000 elective orthopaedic cases annually, including over 2100 hip and knee joint replacements. As one of the largest trauma hospitals in Canada, ~ 2000 \xe2\x80\x98code trauma\xe2\x80\x99 patients are managed through our Emergency Department annually. The hospital\xe2\x80\x99s Holland Bone and Joint Program remains integral to Sunnybrook\xe2\x80\x99s ecosystem supporting its Trauma activity, Cancer Program, and provides comprehensive orthopaedic care for patients with degenerative and inflammatory bone and joint conditions.
Annual salary will be between the range of $250,000 - $350,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This estimate is based on fee for service billings.
