Tenure Track, Assistant Professor

The University of Winnipeg is in Treaty One territory and is located on the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples and on the homeland of the M\xc3\xa9tis Nation. We invite applications from women, members of racialized communities, Indigenous persons, disabled persons, and 2SLGBTQ+ persons for a designated tenure-track position in Women\xe2\x80\x99s and Gender Studies, at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2023, subject to final budgetary approval. We especially seek applications from candidates with scholarly excellence in: Indigenous feminisms, critical race feminisms, and/or transnational feminist approaches. We welcome in particular those whose scholarly work involves culturally-grounded and/or collaborative practices, land-based and community-engaged epistemologies and/or practices, research-creation, and policy development; as well as scholarship that situates Indigenous issues in local, national, and/or international contexts using decolonizing, comparative, and/or relational frameworks. The successful candidate will have a PhD, or be close to completing.

The Department of Women\xe2\x80\x99s and Gender Studies offers three degree options for an interdisciplinary Major in Women\'s and Gender Studies: a 3-Year BA, a 4-Year BA, and an Honours BA. We also offer a Minor. The Department fosters an awareness and appreciation of the realities and diverse experiences of women, men, and 2SLGBTQ+ persons, and fosters a critical consciousness of the societal inequalities affecting people, including those based on gender, race, class, age, disablement, sex, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and religion. We especially invite scholars who will strengthen our program\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to community-engaged practices, social justice organizing, decolonial and anti-colonial critiques, Indigenous resistance and/or resurgence, public intellectual practices, intersectional feminisms, and critical race scholarship.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses such as: Introduction to Women\xe2\x80\x99s and Gender Studies, Gender Race, and Nation in Canada, and Indigenous and Critical Race Feminisms. They will have the opportunity to develop Special Topics courses in their field of study. Candidates should have a record of excellence in teaching (critical, Indigenous, and intersectional feminist pedagogies), and experience in undergraduate teaching in the interdisciplinary context of Women\xe2\x80\x99s and Gender Studies, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
