Assistant or Associate Professor (Teaching & Research or Teaching Only) Veterinary Anesthesiologist

The University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) invites applications for a full time or part time Veterinary Anesthesiologist in either the Teaching and Research stream or the Teaching focused stream. Full time applications are preferred. Depending on qualifications and career track expectations, the appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching and Research (tenure track), Assistant Professor, Teaching (tenure track), Associate Professor, Teaching and Research (with tenure) or Associate Professor, Teaching (with tenure).
The successful candidate will be appointed in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2024 or a mutually agreed upon date.
Qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent) and board certification (DACVAA and/or Dipl. ECVAA) is preferred but board eligible ACVAA or ECVAA residency trained candidates will be considered. An additional graduate degree is considered an asset. The candidate must be eligible for immediate licensure in the Province of Alberta.
Applicants to the teaching-focused stream will devote the majority of their time to teaching within UCVM and predominantly within the anesthesia curriculum, which can include lecture teaching, lab instruction, graduate program teaching along with service on teaching-related committees. Clinical duties are integrated within the teaching role and the time allocation spent on clinical duties is open for discussion. The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching skills. Service to the department, faculty, University, and community is also expected.
Applicants to the teaching and research stream will have time allocated for research in addition to teaching. The successful candidate will establish an active research program that aligns with the University of Calgary\'s and the UCVM\'s strategic plans. The successful research-oriented candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a prolific and diverse research environment in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with access to state-of-the-art core infrastructure. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration are available with established research programs such as the Cumming School of Medicine and other faculties on main campus. Additionally, the successful candidate will play an important role in teaching and research supervision of students in veterinary medicine. Service to the department, faculty, University, and community is also expected.
The University of Calgary has a Distributed Veterinary Teaching Hospital and clinical time is spent in clinics in the community. There is no teaching hospital but we are planning to build a community care clinic. A variety of clinical options can be explored with candidates, based on desires and opportunities available.
UCVM\'s AVMA accredited DVM program provides a comprehensive general veterinary education to approximately 50 students per year, with a planned expansion to 100 students. UCVM is a research-intensive faculty with expanding research, graduate education, and advanced clinical trainee programs.
