Description: The University Health Network (UHN), Division of Infectious Diseases and the Ajmera Transplant Centre, in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, is seeking an Academic Infectious Diseases Physician with interest in Transplant Infectious Disease and the Immunocompromised Host, in the Clinician Investigator track. The successful applicant must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment as a Clinician at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor within the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The effective start date is January 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
A physician with excellent critical thinking and research record is being sought to support the Immunocompromised Host Infectious Diseases program while advancing knowledge acquisition and clinical care in infectious diseases at the University of Toronto, Division of Infectious Diseases. The candidate must have interest and expertise in managing infectious complications in the immunocompromised host including those with underlying transplant and oncology diagnoses. The successful candidate will be expected to participate as a member of the inpatient Transplant Infectious Disease and Immunocompromised Host consultation service, contribute to infectious diseases ambulatory care clinics, and contribute to teaching of trainee. They will report to the Division Director of Infectious Diseases, as well as the Program Medical Director of the Ajmera Transplant Centre. The successful candidate will be based at the Toronto General Hospital (200 Elizabeth Street, Toronto ON) and cover other UHN sites such as Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (610 University Avenue, Toronto ON), as well as Sinai Health \xe2\x80\x93 Mount Sinai Hospital (600 University Avenue, Toronto ON). The candidate will have office space located in the Ajmera Transplant Centre Administrative Area, 9th floor MaRS Building, 101 College Street, Toronto ON M5G 1L7.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, be eligible for certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Infectious Diseases, have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. An advanced thesis-based degree (Masters or Ph.D.) or equivalent in health research is required, and candidates with specialized clinical training in oncology and/or transplant infectious disease will be preferred. A proven record of scholarly achievements, in the form of research grants and peer-reviewed publications, is an asset. The ideal candidate must have the potential to enhance the existing research portfolio in infectious diseases of the immunocompromised host including clinical or translational research. Particular areas of interest to the group include infections in hematopoietic stem cell transplant and oncology patients (viral infections and vaccines), drug resistant bacterial infections including novel therapies, and the microbiome as it pertains to clinical outcomes in this population. The candidate must be able to communicate proficiently in English.
For the successful candidate, compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be competitive with the usual income range for an academic ID clinician in the province of Ontario, with a compensation no less than $255,000 per year, which is partially determined by fee for service. The Transplant ID Physician will be eligible to participate in the UHN-Sinai Health System Department of Medicine Practice Plan and the Ajmera Transplant Centre alternate funding plan (AFP) for transplantation.
