CAREER OPPORTUNITYASSISTANT MUNICIPAL SUPERINTENDENT The Town of The Pas is currently recruiting for the full time permanent position of Assistant Municipal Superintendent Reporting to the Municipal Superintendent, the Assistant Municipal Superintendent is responsible for assisting in managing the ongoing operations of the Town. Operations includes Utility, Engineering, Public Works and Maintenance components. This position will be required to participate in the on-call rotation within the department to respond to emergency situations as well assist the Municipal Superintendent with department related matters. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assume the responsibilities and authority of the Municipal Superintendent in his/her absence
Supervision of Operations department and staff \xe2\x80\x93 examples but not limited to: o the operation of the drafting office o Engineering field work and projects, including survey, inspection and safety practices o Utility (sewer & water plant), Arena, Public works, Maintenance and Town Garage. o the operation of Lakeside Cemetery o Direct and lay out work for contractors and work crews o Shall, within the guidelines of Town policy share responsibility to train and discipline subordinate personnel
Carry out design work and assist with the preparation of tenders and specifications.
Assist the Municipal Superintendent in preparing budgets and maintaining work efficiency and cost control.
Required to be a member of the Workplace Safety and Health Committee
QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of Grade 12
Technical degree/diploma/certificate in a field related to municipal infrastructure and facilities management (Civil engineering, technologist (CTTAM, etc.)
Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License
Experience in a similar role considered an asset
Experience in a supervisory role - demonstrated leadership and initiative.
Completed courses or requirement to acquire the Water and Wastewater Certification: o Level 3 Water Treatment o Level 2 Water Distribution o Level 2 Wastewater Collection o Level 2 Wastewater Treatment
Ability to understand and effectively apply managerial and organizing concepts and practices and to acquire the technical knowledge and skills required to successfully direct maintenance of Town infrastructure, assets and equipment. (E.g.: Swimming pool, ice arena, cemetery, parks, playgrounds and building maintenance, road maintenance, water and sewer infrastructure, etc.).
Ability to deal effectively with people and organizations and to communicate clearly with persons of different backgrounds and levels of comprehension, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to estimate financial, personnel and material requirements, prepare budget estimates and to review activities to ensure efficient use of resources.
Ability to analyze problems and to use sound judgment in making decisions.
Working knowledge of relevant legislation, safety regulations and collective agreements.
