DescriptionThe Assistant Ministry Leader is responsible to support and encourage discipleship and spiritual growth within the church family and to reach out to the community to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. This requires biblical knowledge and communication skills to create content for services and digital platforms.The incumbent is responsible for face-to-face caregiving, teaching the bible, leading teams, communicating vision, building community, conversations about God & prayer with a focus on the volunteers they lead and newcomers that connect with them.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1) Pastoral Ministry

  • Assists in the ministry of the Corps Officer/Pastor, contributing to the spiritual and pastoral development of individuals associated with the church through mentoring, discipleship, encouraging, and modelling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
  • Assists in developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating programs/ministries relevant to the church body and the community at large.
  • Participates as required in Sunday morning worship services, including preaching on occasion, reading scripture, and praying.
  • Participates in pastoral care programs (including on-going visitation) and Bible studies.
  • Assists as necessary in the area of youth ministry.
2) Community Ministries Assistance\xc2\xb7 Assists with some areas of community and family ministries, including the Food Distribution Program and the Fort MacLeod Food Bank.\xc2\xb7 Participates in Christmas ministries, including the Toys for Tots Program and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.3) Administrative Oversight:\xc2\xb7 Coordinates and maintains church membership records.\xc2\xb7 Coordinates and maintains church financial records, including the use of Shelby for record keeping.\xc2\xb7 Assists in preparing weekly bank deposits.4) Communications:\xc2\xb7 Assists in maintaining the ministry unit\'s presence on social media and website.\xc2\xb7 Responds to inquiries made by the public on social media and the website.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:*NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.Education/Certifications:\xc2\xb7 Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years. Appropriate Theological diploma or training preferred.\xc2\xb7 Alternative combination of prior experience may be considered.Experience:
  • At least one year experience in a spiritual care role in a social services setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Strong sense of spiritual maturity.
  • Solid knowledge of various theologies and faith backgrounds.
  • Solid knowledge of spiritual care and/or pastoral counselling and its application within the context of the Ministry Unit.
  • Understands and adheres to the mission of The Salvation Army Church with a biblical approach to leadership.
  • Works closely with Corps Officer and leadership team to ensure unity in vision messaging.
  • Experience managing staff and/or volunteers.
Skills and Capabilities:\xc2\xb7 Demonstrates self-motivation, discipline, excellent time management, and organizational prowess.\xc2\xb7 Capable of thriving within a team setting and adhering to directives from supervisors.\xc2\xb7 Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with a commitment to confidentiality.\xc2\xb7 Proficient in computer use and social media, particularly within the Office 365 suite.\xc2\xb7 Clear vision and articulation for children and youth ministry.\xc2\xb7 Passionate about fostering the spiritual growth and welfare of people.\xc2\xb7 Aligns with, and actively promotes, The Salvation Army\'s Christian doctrine, mission, vision, and values.\xc2\xb7 Eager to participate in the Corps community as an active worshipper.\xc2\xb7 Compliant with all organization policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.\xc2\xb7 Completion of mandatory training, including abuse prevention certification.\xc2\xb7 Respectful and cautious in handling The Salvation Army\'s property.\xc2\xb7 Adheres to the OH&S Act and Regulations and follows organizational health and safety policies.\xc2\xb7 Holds a valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers\'s License with personal vehicle and insurance; required to provide a satisfactory Driver\'s Abstract.\xc2\xb7 Must provide a satisfactory Background Check with vulnerable sector screening from CPIC or local police.\xc2\xb7 Potential screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.\xc2\xb7 Understands and supports the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada in relation to role responsibilities.
