Habitat for Humanity Victoria (HFHV) brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. The ReStore is a retail outlet open to the public that sells quality new and used home improvement items and building supplies. Funds raised through ReStore sales cover the operational costs of Habitat Victoria. That means that every dollar donated to Habitat Victoria goes directly towards building homes for local families living in need.

Position Summary



The ReStore Assistant Manager plays a key leadership role in the daily operations of the store, supporting the Store Manager and ensuring a safe, efficient, and customer-focused environment. This position involves supervision of staff and volunteers, oversight of retail activities, and maintaining excellent donor and customer relationships.

The ideal candidate will have strong retail experience, people-management skills, and a commitment to the values and mission of Habitat for Humanity.

key responsibilities

Operations & Compliance



Follow all HFHV Human Resource and Safety policies

Ensure compliance with established store procedures

Retail & Sales Support



Perform keyholder and managerial duties as required (e.g. opening/closing store, managing escalated issues, signing for deliveries)

Lead morning team meetings and assign daily tasks

Record and report daily sales

Maintain and manage inventory and store signage

Reprice or cull products in accordance with procedures

Customer & Donor Engagement



Greet and assist customers in a courteous, professional manner

Promote HFHV's mission, vision, and values to customers and donors

Stay informed about current ReStore promotions, product availability, and donation criteria

Resolve customer inquiries, complaints, and concerns

Maintain store appearance and customer service standards

Human Resources



Supervise and coordinate staff, cashiers, receivers, and volunteers

Assign tasks and lead the team in the absence of the Store Manager

Provide input on staff performance and assist with training

Arrange for shift coverage when necessary

Volunteer Engagement



Assign and train volunteers

Maintain open and respectful communication

Provide feedback to the Volunteer Coordinator

Cashier & Financial Handling



Process sales through the register and POS

Perform end-of-day cash reconciliation

Handle returns, delivery requests, and telephone inquiries

Marketing & Merchandising



Create and post promotional signage

Manage online listings (e.g. Used Victoria)

Collaborate with the Donations Manager for social media content

Ensure store displays are clean, organized, and aligned with branding standards

Product Handling & Preparation



Safely use material handling tools and follow safe lifting practices

Assist with product pricing and tagging according to guidelines

Collaborate with Receivers to ensure effective product flow and presentation

Store Maintenance & Safety



Maintain a clean, safe store environment including washrooms and storage areas

Conduct daily safety checks

Attend or lead scheduled safety meetings

Read and understand all safety manuals and procedures

Participate in HFHV-funded safety and certification training (e.g. First Aid, WHMIS)

Qualifications & Requirements



Completion of secondary school Minimum of 2 years' experience in a retail sales environment Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office suite) Must have or be willing to obtain a valid forklift operator's ticket Must have valid Class 5 driver's license with clean driving record Ability to lift up to 20kg regularly and stand for extended periods Knowledge of thrift store operations and second-hand merchandise is an asset Familiarity with home improvement items including furniture, housewares, decor, tools, building supplies, and collectibles is preferred Product appraisal skills considered an asset

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
