Congruent with the values of Alberta Health Services and the pillars of Patient First and People Strategies, this position is responsible for leading the coordination of an interdisciplinary team providing patient care in a rural combined Medical/Surgical/Obstetrics nursing unit. The Assistant Head Nurse acts as a coach and clinical resource/mentor for the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for the daily coordination of patient assignments and providing leadership to activities across the unit. This person is accountable for leadership in the application of evidence-based knowledge and critical analysis in the direction of high-quality patient care. The Assistant Head Nurse leads daily activities related to patient flow and enables optimal unit coordination in collaboration with the Unit Manager, educator and multidisciplinary team on the unit.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
