Your Opportunity:An exciting leadership opportunity exists in the Turningpoint Program, Unit 3-6, at Alberta Hospital Edmonton. Turningpoint is an 18-bed inpatient forensic program providing psychiatric assessment and treatment to youth in legal standing under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Stabilization is also provided to youth experiencing an acute psychiatric disturbance. Reporting to the Unit Manager, we are currently seeking an Assistant Head Nurse who will provide leadership of the nursing program ensuring all components are aligned with the unit and zone operational plan, goals and initiatives. The role is responsible for the provision and coordination of quality patient care in the assessment and admission process and the treatment unit. Duties include planning and organizing day-to-day operations, coordination and monitoring of unit activities, supporting the supervision of nursing and support staff and assisting with recruitment. The Assistant Head Nurse also performs nursing duties on the unit and oversees patient admission and discharge planning in collaboration with the Unit Psychiatrist. This position acts as a liaison between multiple disciplines in Units 3-6, psychiatry, and relevant internal and external stakeholders. As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience will assist in providing solutions for complex healthcare issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policymakers.Description:As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of two years of progressive nursing leadership experience and three years of psychiatric nursing practice within an acute, inpatient setting is required. Knowledge of adolescent development, the DSM V, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and best practices in psychiatric nursing are required. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
