Your Opportunity:3East is a fast-paced area providing healthcare to high-risk postpartum women and newborns. Located at the LHHW, working with postpartum patients, performing a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. The incumbent will care for a variety of patients including postpartum mothers and newborns. A thorough understanding of postpartum or gynecology is an asset. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the Royal Alex Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients and visitors. Reporting to the Unit Manager and Patient Care Manager/designate, the Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership and functional supervision in addition to frontline registered nurse duties. Following principles of the Royal Alex Way, the AHN will foster team/group effectiveness by modelling excellent clinical practice and interpersonal relationships. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the AHN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for skills assessment, staff development, daily operative planning and assisting in equipment maintenance. The AHN addresses and seeks to resolve patient and family concerns as they arise and refers matters, as appropriate, to the Unit Manager and or Patient Care Manager. The AHN supports and facilitates learners including medical, nursing and support staff.Description:As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
