Your Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in promoting quality patient care and implementing operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge, skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policymakers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting AHS's shared vision and values. The AHN supports a respectful workplace by using effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to promote the achievement of organizational goals and acts in accordance with AHS CARES Values, AHS guidelines, standards and procedures. The AHN refers issues of financial, disciplinary, or potentially negative media coverage to the UM or designates for their guidance or resolution. The AHN keeps the team apprised of significant relevant events.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. Current BCLS-HCP – issued from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) only. Demonstrated experience in clinical nursing practice, including demonstrating leadership abilities, of which a minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience on a surgical ward. Knowledge of acute care. Knowledge of AHS, Alberta’s healthcare structure, and collective agreements. Must have strong clinical and leadership skills with experience in clinical practice, leadership, facilitation, coaching, people management, change management, quality and operational improvement. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to work in a physically and mentally demanding and challenging environment. AHS Leadership Courses, like Leading Teams, Situational Leadership, Leadership Essentials, Constructive Conversations, Accountable Leadership, and Leading Change are assets. Current non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI) training is an asset. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and experience in a leadership role (e.g. Charge Nurse, Nurse Educator, Professional Practice Lead, etc.) as an asset.
