General Accountability





Provides technical support in the preparation, analysis, monitoring and co-ordination of new projects or modifications to existing equipment as related to the design, asset management, and testing of TTC\'s electrical systems and equipment for the department; conducts investigations into electrical problems; and detects new areas needing engineering attention to improve safety, productivity and cost effectiveness.

Key Job Functions




  • Prepare and review electrical designs and documentation, and assist with the preparation of drawings, estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures and site inspections in accordance with TTC and Industry Design Standards and Codes
  • Conduct various engineering analyses/evaluations/tests and make recommendations and conclusions
  • Review and interpret drawings and specifications for accuracy and ensure that all detailed factors have been correctly incorporated
  • Assist with electrical asset management configuration, documentation and control procedures. Visit sites to collect data, perform asset/equipment inventory audits and asset identification/labelling
  • Administer the construction, inspection and commissioning of various electrical Capital State of Good Repair replacement and Operating maintenance repair projects
  • Provide engineering guidance to staff and field personnel, troubleshooting operational problems and provide engineering solutions for existing and new electrical systems
  • Independently access all TTC properties, construction sites, and track level on a 24hr basis, 7 days a week
  • Visit work sites before the design starts, during the design and construction phases, and during the testing and commissioning phase
  • Participation in the TTC\'s Customer Service Ambassador Program

Education and Experience




  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred
  • Registration with, or working towards PEO status with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is an asset


Additional Requirements




  • Sound technical knowledge and experience with Industrial and Commercial Power Systems including medium and high voltage switchgear, power transformers, power system distribution, electrical grounding, protection and metering as well as power systems electrical test equipment
  • Sound knowledge of AC and DC power systems design principles
  • Sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles, methods and practices
  • Proficiency with MicroStation/AutoCAD and other computer applications applicable to the work (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • Must possess sound judgement and well developed technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and engineering report writing skills
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical, safety codes/practices/standards
  • These skills and knowledge would normally be acquired by obtaining a University Degree in Electrical Engineering, or the equivalent, plus related work experience
  • Must have or be able to acquire Subway Rulebook Certification
