Position Summary:



We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assistant Controller to join our Finance team. This hybrid offers the opportunity to play a key part in the financial operations of a dynamic non-profit organization. Reporting to the Chief Operating and Financial Officer, the Assistant Controller will support financial reporting, manage system integrity, and contribute to process improvements.

Schedule Information



Full-time, 37.5 hours per week/regular schedule.

This position is hybrid 2-3 days per week onsite at the MNjcc in downtown Toronto.

Some evening and weekend work is required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities



Financial Management



Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports, forecasts, and variance analysis, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.

Assist in maintaining the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely month-end close

Support preparation of year-end audit schedules and liaise with external auditors and prepare necessary documentation.

Assist in the management of accounts receivable accounts payable, and payroll oversight

Monitor and maintain financial data integrity within the accounting system (Sage Intacct)

Work collaboratively with internal departments to support budgeting and financial planning

Assist with financial aspects of grant reporting

Contribute to streamlining financial systems and integrating with other organizational databases

Internal Control & Risk Management



Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard the assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.

Recommend improvements to financial policies, procedures and systems to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.

Collaboration



Collaborate across departments to promote financial literacy and accountability

Contribute to organizational projects, strategic initiatives, and process improvement efforts.

Secondary Responsibilities

Maintain accurate records, streamline administrative processes, and support strategic initiatives with precision and efficiency.

Qualifications



CPA designation or working towards CPA an asset

3-5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the non-profit or public sector

Proficiency with Sage Intacct accounting software an asset

Familiarity with customer relationship management systems and fundraising databases

Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insights.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Salary and Benefits



Annual salary range: $60,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience.

Working Conditions



Hybrid role with 2-3 days per week required on-site.

Work location - Miles Nadal JCC, 750 Spadina Avenue. Availability for occasional evenings/weekends and off-site meetings.
