The Role: The Assistant Controller is responsible for working closely with the Controller to manage and coordinate the financial administration by ensuring the timely preparation of month-end financial statements, bank reconciliations and managing collections. Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist the Controller by overseeing accounting, billing, collections, payroll and financial reporting functions
  • Strong focus on Revenue Accounting including the month-end close process, reconciliations, and related reporting and disclosures, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with IFRS
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Supporting most aspects of accounting management.
  • Assisting in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
  • Provide back up for Controller as required.
  • Calculates and prepares cheques for payroll, utilities, taxes and other bills.
  • Maintains and balances various accounts using computerized bookkeeping systems.
  • Completes and submits tax remittance forms, workers\xe2\x80\x99 compensation forms, pension contribution forms and other related government documents.
  • Assist the Controller oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department\'s goals and objectives
  • Assist in the month end closing process, including the preparation of month end journal entries
  • Reconcile monthly inter-company transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Lead and assist with other special projects as needed driving projects to successful completion
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Business Administration or Accounting
  • 5 years of full cycle accounting experience combined with 2-3 years experience at the Assistant Controller level in a large, multi-site organization
  • Working towards CPA/CGA is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
  • Excellent proficiency with productivity software, MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong skills in using accounting/payroll software applications (Deltek, Power BI, Pay@Work, Workforce Now would be an asset)
  • Strong organizational and time management to function in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with staff at various levels of the organization
