Job Summary


We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will support the preparation of financial statements, manage account reconciliations, and assist with regulatory reporting. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in various accounting disciplines, including governmental, non-profit, and corporate accounting. The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial management and compliance with GAAP and other regulatory standards. Strong technical skills, familiarity with accounting software, and a solid understanding of financial concepts are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities



Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. Perform account reconciliations such as bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliation, and account analysis. Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing of transactions. Maintain accurate records of journal entries, debits & credits, and other bookkeeping activities using software like QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or PeopleSoft. Conduct regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with SOX, LIHTC regulations, securities law, and other relevant standards. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support management decision-making. Support internal audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations for financial transactions. Help prepare tax-related documentation and assist with tax experience requirements. Collaborate with team members to mentor junior staff and promote best practices in accounting procedures. Ensure adherence to GAAP standards and maintain strong knowledge of technical accounting principles including accrual accounting and double entry bookkeeping.

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA candidate preferred. Proven experience with corporate accounting practices including general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft or similar platforms. Strong understanding of financial concepts including debits & credits, balance sheet reconciliation, cash flow analysis, and regulatory compliance. Knowledge of SOX compliance requirements and LIHTC regulations is a plus. Experience with governmental or non-profit accounting is desirable but not mandatory. Excellent analytical skills combined with attention to detail; ability to interpret complex financial data effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial report writing and data analysis. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team; mentoring experience is a plus. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently. Pay: $24.09-$38.83 per hour
