Position: NCAS Assessor \xe2\x80\x93 Multiple Positions Available Term: Contractor (on average, 1-2 days per month) Compensation: $42.00 per hour Location: Centre for Nursing Studies, St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, Newfoundland and Labrador. THE OPPORTUNITY The Nursing Community Assessment Service (or \xe2\x80\x9cNCAS\xe2\x80\x9d) administers the NCAS Assessment for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses seeking licensure in the Newfoundland and Labrador. The NCAS Assessment is a comprehensive, multifaceted competency assessment that evaluates strengths and gaps in entry-level competencies, helps determine readiness to practice, and provides direction for remediation. The NCAS Assessor plays a key role in the administration of the NCAS Assessment by observing and \xe2\x80\x9cscoring\xe2\x80\x9d candidates in the Simulation Lab Assessment. Scoring is completed using standardized checklists, which credit the candidates for appropriate actions completed. The Assessor will have minimal direct interaction with each candidate, providing scripted cues and responses only as needed. Assessments will be delivered at the Centre for Nursing Studies in St. John\xe2\x80\x99s, Newfoundland and Labrador. WHO WE ARE The Nursing Community Assessment Service is a department within the BC College of Nurses and Midwives. BCCNM is the largest nursing regulatory organization in western Canada and is empowered under the Health Professions Act to regulate the practice of all licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, nurse practitioners and midwives in BC. \xe2\x80\x8b NCAS was launched in January 2017 as a service for assessing the competencies of nurses and health care aides seeking licensure in BC, adding Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island in 2021, and is expanding its services to Newfoundland and Labrador. Our high-stakes assessment is designed to provide a consistent, rigorous, and defensible approach to determining the extent to which potential registrants possess the competencies required to enter practice safely. DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES \xc2\xb7 Participate in initial training (including self-study, one-on-one, and/or group training sessions) as needed (virtual and in-person) \xc2\xb7 Learn and operate NCAS\xe2\x80\x99s assessment scoring methodology \xc2\xb7 Participate in assessment administration by observing (watching and listening) and \xe2\x80\x9cscoring\xe2\x80\x9d candidates in the simulation lab during live assessments \xc2\xb7 Participate in assessment scoring in a back-up capacity by observing (watching and listening) and \xe2\x80\x9cscoring\xe2\x80\x9d candidate performances that have been recorded \xc2\xb7 Participate in scenario dry runs and dress rehearsals as needed \xc2\xb7 Learn and adhere to NCAS\xe2\x80\x99s policies surrounding Assessor Currency and Consistency \xc2\xb7 Maintain a minimum availability of 1 weekend day per month as needed (some weekdays may be required; schedule provided in advance) \xc2\xb7 Foster and maintain an organizational culture that promotes mutual respect, teamwork, and service excellence QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE The NCAS Assessor for RN and/or LPN must possess: \xc2\xb7 Active licensure/registration as a Registered Nurse \xc2\xb7 At least two years\xe2\x80\x99 practice experience in that profession \xc2\xb7 Experience teaching/precepting and/or providing direct clinical supervision is an asset \xc2\xb7 Knowledge of professional standards and guidelines \xc2\xb7 Simulation experience will be an asset In addition, the NCAS Assessor must be able to demonstrate: \xc2\xb7 Strong attention to detail and organizational skills \xc2\xb7 Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skill with the ability to interact and communicate effectively, and maintain good relations, with colleagues, registrants, and other key stakeholders \xc2\xb7 Proven ability to think critically and act appropriately while ensuring that policies, procedures, and standards are maintained \xc2\xb7 An ease with data entry on laptops and tablets \xc2\xb7 Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team To learn more about our organization, please visit www.ncasbc.ca.
