Innovative Learning is dedicated to the development and enhancement of teaching innovation and learning across the institution. Job Details

Position Title: Assessment Specialist

Status: FT Admin Contract (1 Year)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Faculty/Department: Centre for Innovative Learning

Campus/Location: North Campus

Payband/Salary Range: NFT Admin 05 - $71,973 - $107,961

What you will do:

Reporting to the Dean Innovative Learning, and as an integral member of the Centre for Innovative Learning, the Assessment Specialist will serve as the key development resource and implementation expert for authentic assessment and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) practices college-wide.

The purpose of this position is to promote, teach and demonstrate evidence-based assessment strategies that align with Humber\xe2\x80\x99s values and strategic initiatives related to flexible learning, digital learning, Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR), micro-credential and Continuous Professional Learning strategies. Further, the work will be to support access, equity and diversity, by removing barriers through the PLAR process. This role also supports Humber\xe2\x80\x99s competency-based professional learning model to develop faculty and staff in building skills, knowledge and behaviours essential to learning innovations. These competencies are operationalized through relevant professional learning theories and frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), critical pedagogy, the Humber Learning Outcomes (HLOs), inclusive design, evidence-based innovations in curriculum design and review, and other learner-centered approaches that foster global citizenship in faculty and staff as well as the adult learners they support.

The incumbent will increase capacity for effective assessment by developing and delivering workshops and consultations, coaching and providing pedagogical expertise to part-time and full-time faculty, instructors, facilitators and staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams on innovative learning initiatives and projects.

Qualifications

What you bring to the role:

Education

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Masters of Education
  • We would review applicants with a Bachelor of Education in addition to a Master of Arts in a related discipline (Adult Education, etc.) or a Master of Sciences.
Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will have 3 \xe2\x80\x93 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 work-related experience and should demonstrate the following:
  • Thorough knowledge of assessment practices in higher education.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff in higher education, particularly with a focus on assessment methods and practice.
  • Experienced in flexible and non-traditional assessment practices that foster collaboration and reflect decolonized approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Experience with competency-based learning concepts and application.
  • Experience with popular educational technology tools used in higher education in digital and classroom contexts.
  • Strong digital fluency and adaptability skills with knowledge of at least one learning management system common in higher education.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to maintaining positive and equitable learning environments through effective facilitation strategies.
  • Expertise in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), anti-oppression, trauma-informed pedagogy, anti-racist and decolonization practices related to higher education, curriculum design, curriculum alignment, assessment and evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Highly collaborative, and able to work independently.
