We?re Recruiting For A? Art Gallery Intern The Confederation Centre Art Gallery will be presenting a nationally touring exhibition
GENERATIONS: THE SOBEY FAMILY AND CANADIAN ART between June 10, 2023 - September 10,
2023. This exhibition includes major works of art by Canadian and Indigenous artists both historic and contemporary. We anticipate welcoming 10,000+ visitors and want to provide guests with the opportunity to be guided through the exhibition, encouraged careful looking, having their questions responded to and to generally have a memorable experience of the exhibition. We are seeking a student to conduct guided tours of this major exhibition and occasionally undertaking research tasks related to exhibitions. This is a temporary full-time position from June 5 ? September 1, 2023 and may include weekend work. Rate is $16/hour. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • welcoming visitors;
  • conducting guided tours, facilitating conversations about art, and answering visitor?s questions;
  • reminding visitors including families with children about ?careful viewing of art? (not getting too close or touching artworks, ?safe distance? likened to ?social distancing?; and the idea of preservation by minimizing risk (by not touching, controlling temperature, relative humidity, and light levels in the gallery; restrict food and beverages, backpacks, and umbrellas);
  • conducting daily exhibition checks to ensure all works of art are all in place, that benches and stanchions have not been shifted; check of temperature and relative humidity
(Hygrothermograph);
  • providing written weekly reports summarizing daily activity and identifying any issues or , feedback from patrons regarding tour schedule or content;
  • ensuring visitors are invited to complete a short survey on their gallery visit and explain how to subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter or purchase a membership if asked
  • other duties as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • enrolled in a university program, ideally with several courses completed in some combination of art history, visual art, art education, education, history, or curatorial studies;
  • genuine interested in a summer job in a public art museum;
  • excellent spoken communications skills in English (bilingualism in English and French would be an asset);
  • experience working with small groups (teaching or customer service)
  • excellent public speaking skills;
  • previous experience conducting guided tours;
  • knowledge of visual art or Canadian or indigenous history;
  • the ability to speak loud enough to be heard by a group (for multiple tours each day)
