  • Please note this is a 10-month temporary position, backfilling a maternity leave.

Your role:
As the Art Director with CBC Kids you will work closely with the executive team, senior producers and content teams. You will lead a creative review of the current CBC Kids branding including design elements, graphic packages, and visual styles across multiple platforms and content initiatives. You will set the creative tone and aesthetic for multiple projects and collaborate with content teams and designers to execute on your vision.
We are looking for someone with an outstanding portfolio of branding work, graphic/web design, art, illustration and/or animation specifically featuring projects intended for and appealing to preschool, school age, tween and/or teen audiences.
You should have exceptional knowledge and understanding of aesthetic and art styles prevalent in the kids and youth media landscape including gaming, television and movies, animation. Appreciation of the visual styles and trends used effectively on social media, web and video platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Roblox and others that are relevant to young audiences is a must.
Your responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to gain an understanding of mandates, primary audiences and key objectives for brands including CBC Kids, CBC Kids News, StreetCents, Studio K

  • Lead a creative review of various branding elements, visual and graphic packages, social channel designs, content presentation and project designs

  • Create comprehensive brand guides for a variety of CBC Kids brands and platforms including cbckids.ca, CBC Kids News, CBC Kids YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

  • Organize brand folders with logos, fonts, colour palettes and graphic assets for each brand as required so content teams have easy access to whatever they need for their productions

  • Lead and/or participate in regular creative meetings and brainstorms with the various CBC Kids content teams

  • Supervise and direct graphic designers from the CBC Kids teams and/or the CBC graphics team as required

  • Develop graphic concepts and designs for a variety of projects and content initiatives including social media templates, illustrations or art for various content initiatives, promotional elements, contest branding and more


Your profile:

  • A university degree or college diploma in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Interior Design, Animation, or Multimedia Design or related visual arts field

  • Excellent proficiency in a variety of graphic tools including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, Premiere.

  • Experience working with teams and leading graphic artist to successfully execute against your creative visions for brands, websites, games, digital video and/or social media feeds

  • Four years experience working as an Art Director or Graphic Artist designing for brands or projects

  • Superior knowledge and understanding of content marketing, branding and production.

  • A strong desire to live and promote CBC’s values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.

  • Experience designing brands, illustrations, motion graphics, websites, animations or otherwise for children, tweens or teens (2 - 18 years).

  • An understanding of suitable design styles, trends and elements that make an aesthetic popular with kids and teen brands, digital video, shows and social media content

  • A keen personal interest in popular culture, youth culture and current trends in gaming or digital video sites and apps such as YouTube, TikTok and other platforms relevant to young audiences.

  • Illustration skills are considered a strong asset for this role.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
