Attention art conservation students! The Royal Ontario Museum is seeking an Art Conservation Intern to join our team and gain hands-on experience in preserving museum objects.

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada
Contract: (May 15, 2023 - August 15, 2023)

This is a paid internship.

As an Art Conservation Intern, you\'ll work closely with our organic and inorganic materials conservators to perform conservation treatments and document and photograph objects. You\'ll also gain hands-on experience with the TMS database system. You\'ll be responsible for the following:

  • Complementing studies in art conservation and assisting in preserving museum objects from different cultures.
  • Working alongside our conservators and gaining hands-on experience in treating and documenting museum objects.
  • Using your attention to detail to document and photograph objects and prepare them for applications such as loans, exhibitions, and various applications.
  • Collaborating with our organic and inorganic object conservators and learning new techniques and skills as you work together to achieve the best results.
  • Using your preventive conservation skills to protect the museum\'s collection and ensure its long-term preservation.
To be successful in this role, you should:
  • Have a passion for art conservation and preservation and a dedication to best practices.
  • Currently, be enrolled in a Master of Art Conservation program focusing on organic or inorganic objects.
  • Possess exceptional attention to detail that will enable you to document objects thoroughly and accurately.
  • Have strong organizational skills to help you manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively with our team of conservators.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will enable you to work effectively as part of a team and engage with visitors.
  • Have an appreciation for the cultural history of Ontario and a desire to help preserve and share its stories through museum objects.
