The Opportunity:Company, Department: NS Power, Power Generation Energy FuelsLocation: Halifax, NSClosing Date: December 11, 2024We are currently looking for a Natural Gas Scheduler/Analyst to join our Energy & Risk Management team in a full-time permanent position. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Commercial, you will be responsible for scheduling natural gas to supply our generating facilities in coordination with the natural gas trader, providing analytical support to identify opportunities for value creation, and acting as a natural gas trader to provide coverage when required. Key elements of this role include::

  • Scheduling: Main resource for the scheduling of natural gas
  • Entering nominations for scheduling of natural gas through pipeline interfaces
  • Ensure optimal utilization of pipeline capacity to transport gas purchased by Nova Scotia Power
  • Laisse with natural gas trader to apprise them of available transportation options
  • Work with counterparties to resolve pipeline cuts to avoid supply interruptions
  • Reconcile NG positions between trade blotters, deal capture system, and pipeline reporting
  • Trading: Serve as backup to natural gas trader for vacation and on-call coverage
  • Support day-to-day activities of gas trader with trade entry and other activities as needed
  • Pipeline: Provide input into viability of open seasons and capacity releases
  • Monitor for new open seasons and capacity releases
  • Proactively identify opportunities to secure short and long-term capacity
  • Analytics: Provide analytical support to gas trader and wider group
  • Provide market data to inform trader on pricing for transactions
  • Identify and evaluate gas resale opportunities when required
  • Validate pricing assumptions for longer term procurement decisions
  • Regulatory: Compliance, reporting, documentation, and audit preparedness
  • Provide support for regulatory processes involving natural gas
  • Ensure thorough documentation of decision making involving natural gas transactions
  • Draft answers to regulatory interrogatories

  • When on-call or providing coverage, you are available after normal business hours and on weekends
