Natural Gas Technician

Smoky Lake County is seeking one qualified individual for the permanent-full time position of Natural Gas Technician. Reporting directly to the Natural Gas Manager, the successful candidate will perform duties relating to the County\'s Natural Gas Distribution System including general maintenance, operations and construction.

Wage will be based on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Operate light vehicles, perform manual labor, use basic and specialized hand tools, and operate natural gas maintenance and construction equipment, as assigned, in accordance with policies and procedures.

• Assist with construction, maintenance, and repair projects and assignments relating to the rural natural gas distribution system, including underground and above-ground pipelines, facilities, and infrastructure.

• Operate and maintain the mercaptan bulk delivery truck, delivering mercaptan liquid to various areas of the Province.

• Availability to undertake on-call rotation, as needed.

• Perform other related duties as directed.

Requirements:

Credentials Required:

• Minimum of a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator\'s License.

• Willing to obtain Gas Utility Operator certificate and Journeyman Gasfitter status. Training may be provided to successful candidate, if not already acquired.

• The ability to work alone and (on occasion) work long hours and/or irregular schedules, including evenings and weekends, as required.

• Be comfortable working in all types of weather (rain, cold, or extreme heat) and dusty conditions.

• Withstand common vibratory motion associated with operation of equipment and occasionally rough terrain.

• Have mechanical aptitude to perform routine inspections and minor servicing of equipment.

• Be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, sit for prolonged periods of time, drive and climb in and out of equipment.

• Be safety conscious and attentive to the working environment.

• Understand oral and written instructions.

• Have great attention to detail and a high stress tolerance.

• The ability to handle difficult customers respectfully.
