Why is this role important?

The Analyst is responsible for providing assistance in compiling data, information and evidence from a variety of data, literature and other sources and other research activities that contribute to the production of health information products and reports. The Analyst works closely with other CIHI staff to research information, data sources, define data and other reporting requirements and assist with synthesis of information.

What you\'ll do

1. Prepares technical notes/definitions to agreed specifications. Drafts written text for CIHI reports or analytic projects within agreed outline under guidance from senior staff.

2. Conducts basic information assembly and data analysis to support reports and studies. Provides support and assists with broader more complex analysis/replication under direction as a team member and in accordance with data access policies.

3. May coordinate specific ad hoc requests/analysis (e.g., annual updates to analysis/indicators). May represent section/branch on CIHI project teams and participates in external meetings and prepares documentation as required.

4. Assists with data quality and quality assurance process, fact checking activities and writes reports as directed.

5. May provide direction to other team members (e.g., Co-op students) to a limited degree as well as orienting new staff.

6. Contributes to the development and production of products and services from the database such as ad hoc and standard reports, publications and compiling data for media releases.

7. Liaises with stakeholders to identify data and/or analytical requirements and assists with interpretation of results, related to specific analysis.

8. Responds to client requests within areas of expertise.

9. Respects privacy and confidentiality of information by adhering to policies in Privacy and Confidentiality of Health Information at CIHI and related procedures and directives.

What you\'ll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in Health Information Sciences, Health Informatics, Health Sciences, Statistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Social Sciences, Health Policy or a related field, or equivalent education/experience. A graduate degree in is an asset.
  • One to three years related experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including manipulating, maintaining, preparing and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to prepare, interpret and effectively present key analytical findings for different audiences.
  • Proficiency with data manipulation and statistical software, such as SAS or other statistical software is essential.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative in adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.
  • Proven organizational and time management skills, with an ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of data quality concepts.
  • Experience working with business intelligence tools, data visualization and reporting (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau).
  • Previous experience working with CIHI data is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian health care system is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism is an asset.
