This position delivers a range of compliance services (awareness and education, audits and inspections, monitoring, investigations and enforcement) on behalf of provincial departments in order to achieve compliance with environmental regulations on farms and in other sectors handling, storing, or using pesticides.
Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting regulatory audits and inspections to ensure regulated activities and operations are in compliance with provincial legislation;
  • Inspecting buildings, equipment, vehicles, and fields, taking soil, vegetation and water samples for lab analysis, measuring buffer zones of wetlands and watercourse, and examining primate and corporate records;
  • Compiling written reports as a result of inspections and providing written and oral feedback to clients;
  • Providing accurate and consistent guidance to the farm community and organizations to prevent non-compliance with provincial environmental legislations;
  • Investigating incident of potential non-compliance received through complaints and routine patrols to determine if violations under provincial environmental legislation have been committed;
  • Administering the appropriate compliance and enforcement action to be taken as result of legal investigations;
  • Collecting and seizing evident in the form of goods, products, financial records, and other documentary evidence;
  • Preparing comprehensive court briefs for each case being prosecuted;
  • Participating in training activities for the Agriculture-Environment Officer Unit;
  • Other related duties
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must have a degree or diploma in the agricultural or environmental field with experience in regulatory enforcement OR A Degree or diploma in a related field with considerable experience in regulatory enforcement;
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as strong conflict resolution skills;
  • Must have a knowledge of provincial environmental and agricultural legislation;
  • Must have a valid drivers license, a good driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Computer skills in word processing and data entry programs are required;
  • A satisfactory criminal record check is required.
Other Qualifications:
  • A Conservation Enforcement training program from a recognized institution as defined by the Wildlife Conservation Act is preferred.
