The purpose of this position is to collect and analyze water samples in support of the Shellfish Growing Area Classifications program.


Duties will include but are not limited to:




Collecting marine and freshwater samples for bacterial analysis; Conducting laboratory analysis of field collected samples; Maintaining trucks, boats, trailers, motors and other equipment used in the Shellfish Growing Area Classifications program; Entering and verifying field and lab data into computer and cross checking between field and lab data sheets; Surveying for and recording information on potential land-based sources of bacterial contamination; Assisting in other freshwater and estuarine monitoring programs carried out as required by the Department; Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:




Applicants must have a Diploma in Environmental Technology or related field. Experience with faecal coliform analysis or similar monitoring programs is preferred. Must have some experience of the water sampling and analysis of samples. Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be eligible to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operators Card. Must be able to work occasional overtime and/or flexible working hours. Applicants must have a good previous work and attendance record. Successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to beginning employment.

Other Qualifications:




Water safety training and First Aid/CPR training will be considered an asset. Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
