Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Find out what students wish to accomplish during the session.
2. Determine whether students have come prepared.
3. Help students improve skills and knowledge in a specific area by:
? Assessing their needs and requests in order to develop a work plan
? Explaining concepts and/or examples covered in class or the textbooks
? Reviewing notes for accuracy and detail
? Evaluating and assisting in the correction of homework assignments
? Providing information about additional resource materials and learning aids in
Tutorial Services or the Library
? Encouraging students to do work outside the normal class assignments
4. Motivate students by being positive and emphasizing accomplishments.
5. Encourage students to take an active part in the session.
6. Ask questions to check students' understanding of a problem or comprehension of a lesson?
7. Review the session, especially if more than one topic was discussed.
8. Evaluate. How effective do you think you were? Why?
Qualifications and Skills
Requirements:
English Writing/Literature teaching, tutoring experience;
1+ years experience teaching or working with children aged 4-10;
Some experience designing and supporting learning activities/workshops/curricula;
Excellent Communication Skills;
Vulnerable Sector Screening from within the past year;
Knowledge of teaching methods in subjects such as arts and music.
