About the Role

The Advisor/Recruiter, Undergraduate Programs, participates in the development of, and implements the strategic recruitment plans for the School of Communication (CMNS) in the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT) in collaboration with the School Director, Undergraduate Program Chair, School Manager, and the FCAT Director of Student Affairs. Provides academic advice and administrative support to undergraduate students (mainly first and second year) in accordance with University, Faculty, School and program policies, procedures, and regulations. Develops a recruitment plan for CMNS; co-ordinates and participates in recruiting events; advises prospective external and internal undergraduate applicants; evaluates the effectiveness of recruitment initiatives; and ensures that the School budget for recruitment and student engagement activities and expenses is not exceeded.

Ability to be part of a team of staff and faculty members who work together to ensure that the undergraduate student experience in CMNS is meaningful. An outgoing, resourceful, self-motivating individual, with attention to detail, is required in order to be a successful undergraduate recruiter and advisor. Attention to detail is a strongly desired asset.

Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in Arts, Communication, or a related discipline, and three years of directly related experience including experience in post-secondary recruitment, academic advising, student programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Excellent time-management.
  • Ability to work with several other units at SFU, including Student Services, and the FCAT Dean\'s Office staff.
  • Experience working with secondary and post-secondary institutions in British Columbia is an asset.
  • Ability to manage the logistics of recruitment events and activities is required.
