The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Advisor, Reliability to join our Integrated Asset Management - Reliability Mining & Milling team in Thompson. This is a permanent position.

The Reliability Advisor will deliver improved performance of the assets by implementing and optimizing the reliability program for the underground mining and/or milling site(s) they support. Additionally, in this position you will...

  • Work multi-functionally in the implementation of a reliability program, which encompasses systems, processes, procedures, standards, critical metrics, analysis, and tools that will improve business value for fixed and mobile assets.
  • Identifies and addresses asset reliability issues in the operations ensuring standard methodologies for asset uptime are standardized and shared across the business.
  • Works with management teams to ensure compliance to the reliability program and that asset reliability risks are identified and mitigated appropriately.
  • Provides recommendations on strategic investment in equipment, technology, and initiatives to optimize asset value.
  • Collaborates with management teams and key partners in development of budgets as well as production and shutdown plans.
  • Develops the Asset Strategy (Identifying asset criticality to the business, setting service strategy based on performance required, and driving reliability and cost-effective lifecycle management) using tools like RCM and FMEACs. Strategies cover routine and integrity and are part of baseline strategy review and developed for new assets as part of operational readiness.
  • Leads the Work Design for asset strategies in developing bill of materials, task lists, measuring points, etc.
  • Design the work methods to support the service strategies and foreseeable corrective work activities through the life cycle of the asset. This includes optimizing task method and sequencing of work to provide the safest and most efficient execution of work.
  • Sets strategy and work design for integrity assessments and conducts a baseline assessment as part of setting strategy.
  • Works with site representatives in Operations to determine the appropriate operating standards and strategies to optimize the reliable output of the assets.
  • Works with site representatives in Operations and Maintenance to determine the appropriate mix of preventative and predictive tasks required to optimize the reliable output of the assets.
  • Work with Projects group to develop the operating and maintenance standards and tasks required to optimize the output of the assets once put into operation.
  • Conduct Reliability Analysis and Improvement (Analyzing trends, critical metrics - MTTR/MTBF, data analysis, bad actor failure analysis and optimization).
  • Performs reliability studies applying tools such as RCM to determine reliability of components, equipment, and processes.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on systemic reliability issues and one-off significant events.
  • Determines cost advantages of alternatives and develops actions plants that provide for reliable processes and assets to avoid failures.
  • Supports site to develop the maintenance budgets.
  • Provide design guidance to engineering and project teams on identifying components, assets and systems that are high contributors to un-reliability and pose HSE and business risk. Provide guidance to designs to drive improved life cycle costs.
  • Supporting the sites with 3rd party assessments/audits ensuring that critical operating and maintenance strategies are carried out as per design
  • Maintains and standardizes the Vale specifications for equipment where the product engineering is supported by the OEM, e.g., Caterpillar, McLean, Sandvik, Atlas Copco, etc.
  • For repairable spares held in inventory - Develop and maintain scopes of repair and QA/QC requirements.
  • In-conjunction with Procurement optimizes inventory levels to manage business risk to an acceptable level with a focus on minimizing levels of slow/non-moving inventory.
About You

Education:
  • Undergraduate degree is required
  • Maintenance Reliability Professional and/or Maintenance Management Professional certification is preferred
Skills and Experience:
  • 8-10 years of experience in Reliability/Maintenance Engineering related roles
  • Experience with Reliability tools (FMEA, Criticality analysis, etc.), developing asset service strategies and managing metrics such as availability, utilization, OEE, MTBF in a mining or industrial environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Software skills in of MS Office products and CMMS systems (SAP).
