Our Team:

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrates from the fly-in, fly-out Voiseys Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds, and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Advisor Procurement to join our Procurement team in St Johns. This is a permanent position.

The role holder will act as an extension of the Local, Regional and Global Procurement teams in the field for all commercial aspects of the supplier agreements. On a daily basis, they will be required to interact and establish key relationships with procurement personnel, plant personnel, management and the contractor performance management team. Additionally in this position you will:

• The role holder should possess specialized Procurement knowledge such as but not limited to the following; RFP process, Vale Procurement Model, working with Operations, working with suppliers, negotiations, total cost of ownership analysis, Vale governance models, construction act, international freight terms and knowledge of standard legal contract requirements.
• Will act as the key account representative for Operations on behalf of Procurement. Building relationships while balancing expectations of Procurement with Operations will be essential.
• Responsible for reviewing and approving the use of an emergency procurement process and provide follow up
• Provide guidance and procurement expertise to other analysts and operations when required.
• Responsible to coordinate and provide input and alignment to local, regional and global category and sourcing strategies.
• Responsible to coordinate kick off meetings and ensuring the Vale Procurement Model (VPM) for local, regional and global processes are followed.
• Reactively address supply issues and proactively identify supplier risks, perform root cause analysis, and make recommendations to resolve critical issues. Work on new supplier development.
• Identify the need for procurement and operations process training and seek solutions.
• Prioritize own workload.
• Lead and/or participate on various teams requiring Procurement consultation.
• Recognize when to escalate critical issues.

About You

Education:

• An Undergraduate Degree requires include Business, Economics, Finance and Legal or related disciplines.
• Certification in a professional association (P. Eng., SCMA, C.E.T PMAC) an asset.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in similar role.
• Experience related to procurement (mining, petrochemical or heavy manufacturing industry is an advantage)
• all local plant locations up to five days a week.
• Familiar with the underground and surface plants and accustomed to working in all aspects of these environments.

Skills:

• Understand procurement principles and processes, Canadian contract law, commercial terms, and procurement to pay business systems.
• Understand and RFP processes, protocols, and industry standard methodologies.
• Strong use of MS Excel, pivot tables, VLOOKUP
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Effective communication skills and project management skills
• Analytical and organizational skills
• Must be willing to attend all local plant locations up to five days a week
• Relationship building skills.
